I may have asked you this already but....there has got to be a way to save that cowl and either "fabricate" or glue on the broken tab. Just off the top of my head there is Gorilla Glue and Goop. I've used Goop on an older car to glue in a broken tab on a plastic bumper cover that covered the hole for the fog lamps. It worked! I also recall seeing an article online on how to repair sportbike plastic.

If you don't find a solution, maybe one of these days I'll take a look at that rear cowl and see if we can come up with a solution. I'm thinking glue on a piece of steel with a hole in it the same size as the tab. This takes the place of the tab somehow.....etc., etc.....

However, here is the easy way: HONDA VFR750 1994-97, VFR 750 fairings, bodywork, fairing, upper, lower, mid, seat side, race, street, fender, tail, undertail, tank

    Hey VFRMAN44

I have a seat cowl off a 97 VFR which is in pristine condition. As a matter of fact, to the best of my knowledge any how, I don't think the cowl was ever attached to the bike except for pictures. The only catch is that the cowl, though red, is not painted the factory Honda red. PM me if your interested. I can send photos of it when I get home from work.

The actual color of the cowl is the same pearl red as the 2004 Mazda 3 and the 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata. If you have a factory color red VFR there is a significant difference when held against the rest of the bike. I will take a picture of the 4th gen cowl with the cowl off my 5th gen (the paint code on the 2000 VFR is slightly different from the 97 but the color is similar) next to it, that way you can see the difference. You would probably want to get the cowl painted to match your bike, though I have to admit doing the reverse would look really sweet as well. I had dropped my 97 (side stand sank into the asphalt on a 100*F day and bike was next to a concrete parking abutment) and when I ordered all new body panel replacements, I noticed that none of the new panels were a close enough match to each other never mind the panels on my bike so I decided a color change would be cool. When I had the 97 painted I chose the Mazda red because the color had really amazing depth and brilliance and there is a hint of gold and silver fleck in the paint. Since it is a pearl color it changes hue very slightly depending on the angle that the light hits the body work. With all the lines on the 97 VFR body panels it made for a striking color and one for which I received numerous compliments.

Sorry, I do tend to ramble on a bit. I'll fire off some pics for you when I get home.

If I did buy it and ended up not liking the color how much do you think it would be to repaint it? Well I forgot... Your from Canada. So paint prices could be different out here. I'll have to go Check that out.

Hard to say when it comes to the cost of painting prices. You're right though when it comes to being from Canada, ALL our prices are generally higher than yours. That being said, when I had my 97 VFR750 painted I had the entire bike done (all the plastic, including the two belly pan halves and the tank) and that included all the necessary prep work and repairs and the cost was only $850. Also, I feel I should mention that this was no quickie job done on a budget, I wanted a REALLY GOOD job and that is definitely what I got. The body shop owner and I spent a good couple couple of hours going over every piece and there were a lot of individual pieces (around 30 separate pieces as I recall) and he said every piece had to be prepped by hand since there were so many contours.

The cowl itself should be relatively easy to paint since it can easily be prepped and painted. The cowl is pristine as I mentioned and will only need to be scuffed and painted. As long as the body shop has either the bike or a piece of the tail section that they can use to perform a color match you should be ok. I had the lower cowls on my 2000 VFR painted because they were badly stone chipped and had some gouges on them, and the body shop was able to perform a perfect butt match between and the upper and lower cowls. The body shop that painted them for me was the same one that did the work on my 97 and they charged me $125 total for both of the cowls and once again they were flawless.

Here is a shot of the 5th gen cowl (left side) and 4th gen cowl (right side). The shot on the brown carpet with the two cowls side by side was taken outside on my deck, and the shot where the two cowls are back to back was taken inside with a halogen flood light shining at the cowls. The shot taken inside with the halogen light in the background shows the difference a bit better IMO as you can see the metal flake in the paint a bit better. Let me know what you would like to do and if you get me your ZIP code I can find out a price on shipping.

    Bill

I can see how much it would be to have the cowl painted by my body shop here, but without a piece of your bike to match it up against I fear that the color match would still be a bit off. NOW, if you could find Chip Foose and ask him to paint the cowl for you, I'm certain you would get a perfect match. I repaired the dent in a front fender of a Harley for a local guy who had his bike painted by Chip Foose apparently and OMG the paint job on this Harley was incredible (never seen anything like it). When you looked straight at the fender it just looked like one solid color metallic red, but if you changed your viewing angle by 30 degrees these ghost red flames appeared along with some custom airbrushing. Not really a huge fan of Harley's but even I have to admit this one was worth looking at.

    Hey VFR44MAN

The 4th gen bikes ran from 1994 to 1997 so I'm positive the cowl will fit. Since you own a 95, how about $95 including shipping.

Honestly, I don't. I have purchased a few things online but this is the first time I have ever sold anything online. This is a first. I am a small business owner and I have a credit/debit machine at my office. Not sure if you would be willing to PM me with a credit card number or not. You can check out my website if you like, just to make sure I am not snowing you. If you check out the "What We Do" section of the website, I am the dude with the short hair sitting in front of the black car.

I am a little hesitant to open PayPal account to sell one item if you know what I mean.

I did get your PM with your address so I will get the cowl packed up tomorrow and should be able to get it shipped Monday or Tuesday or whenever. The Canada Post shipping office is only a couple blocks from my shop so it really quick to get the package off to you.

All good things must arrive in California

    Hey VFRMAN44

The cowl is boxed up and ready to go. My daughter Chantal has seen to it that the box has received a complete blessing. Not sure how she learned about blessing boxes or why for that matter but, I will have to chalk it up to something she has seen somewhere along the line. It never ceases to amaze me with the things that kids pick up at this age.

My son watched the water go down the drain in the bath tub a while ago and he called me in to show me. He then looked me straight in the eye and said, "Hey daddy, see how the water makes a little spout when it goes down the drain. That's called FLUID DYNAMICS." I damn near had to pick my jaw up off the floor. He was 4 at the time.

Excellent stuff, Chantal will be especially glad to hear it arrived safe and sound. Maybe her blessing worked after all. Unfortunately, no spare exhaust cans lying around though but I'll keep an eye out for my old bike and see if the new owner will part with it for you. There was a guy near me that was selling a Super Trap exhaust for a VFR, so I'll see if I can find out where year it came from and if he still has the parts. Just in case you're interested. I noticed you were looking in another post
