I picked up a set of used one's and am now wondering if I want to go to the trouble of installing them. Can anyone tell me if they make that much of a difference?

Not a bit and yes that is a bunch of work. I will do you a huge favor and give you five bucks for the bars if you will pay the shipping.

They made a definite difference for me. It's subtle, but it's enough to relieve a lot of wrist and back strain. I'm glad I got mine.

Yes, they make a difference. You will not be "upright" but it is an improvement over stock. Having them meant I could ride all day without discomfort. Stock bars resulted in some lower back/wrist issues even though I always support myself with my abdominal muscles. Make the change.

Put them on my old bike. When I get a new one I will not get them again. It is not a big difference.

I can only say the they made a definite improvement to my 6th Gen.
I have ridden the 7th Gen and I found the stock bars quite comfortable.

BadBilly is right, though: you don't want to have to go through the whole 45 minutes that it'd take to install them. He is doing you a favour by offering to take them off your hands...

I am pleased with the difference on my '07 which had the stock set-up when i purchased the bike, I changed them out in lenn than a month. I also have them on the '95 but the bike had them when I purchased it so I have no reference on that bike.

OK then TC. What happens if you run out of beer. Can you do this in say, 3 scotches? Today's project maybe. I bought a set third hand but never installed.

Let me clarify; I bought a set of side cases from a member here and he threw the Heli Bars in for free. Number 1; I don't like the looks of them compared to the stock bars, the bars themselves that is. Number 2; putting them next to the stock bar they seem to only add about an inch of height. Number 3; I don't have an issue with the install but if the difference is marginal I'd rather not mess with removing my grips, re-installing them etc. Number 4; They may be worth more to someone else and I could make a buck selling them reducing what I actually paid for the side cases.

Instead of rationalizing, take a look at the Heli site and plug in your bike for tech stuff, installs and how-to's.

Then there is the snob appeal and the proclimation to all listeners, that "Yes indeed friends, those are genuine Heli Bars".

Or if your offer of a buck is good. I'm on it big time..

Ok, they are yours. PM me for my paypal account for you to deposit the Buck. But you gotta pay for shipping. I figure $195.00 will cover it

I rode mine with the stock bars for 5 years before I finally installed a set. Visually, they don't look like they make a huge difference, but once you're on the bike for a prolonged period of time is where you will notice the difference. Also, with a dremel, it is a quick install. It is not a big deal. Maybe put them on and if you don't like them, go back to stock and cash them out.

Do you have any more room between your fingers and the tank on the Gen 7's with them installed?

Toss in the bike and you got yourself a deal. I can just come and get it. How's the weather back there? ;)

I have Heli's on both the now universally famous mach 1 91, the worlds fastest and highest mileage capable bike known to man, and on my 1200. The folks at Heli once ya get by the chicas who woman the phone and have designated themselves keepers of the gates and protectors of the dudes that actually do the work, ya got a high quality product.

The 91 tipped over bending one bar years ago. The chicas told me that was too bad. I talked to the owner and he made me up a set. That is great service and a great product.

You might be out a few pesos buying new grips if the stockers are stuck and high pressure air won't work to remove them but, try them on the bike for fitment. You really dont have to have them all in place and plumbed in to see and feel the difference. Ya might want to give it a shot since somebody will want the deal you just tossed out..

They look ok on and it seems that most people like the results, I've been debating them for a long time but I'm not in any pain while ridding longer days.

Wait until you need new grips and then toss them on.[IMG]

Installed them and am surprised at the difference they make just setting on the bike in my shop. I won't be able to try them on the road for a month or so. Too much snow right now lol.
