I'm still a newbie here also... but I can tell you that there are loads of threads in the Gen3 tech section. I would take some time reading though those threads and then try to solve specific issues you are having.

The USUAL conversion some VFR owners do is the RC45 fairings. You have to drop the headlight and clip-ons down to match though.

Most the CBR fairings also require this as they are more race replicas.

You CAN get complete 90-93 VFR fairing from a number of places, and occasionally, complete sets.

    airtech-streamlining.com.

    poly26.com

    are 2 I know of.

I'm just going to go with cbr. They are everywhere and I found a set in my area for 150 bucks new. If you guys want me to post the build I will, but don't get mad that I'm stealing the sssa from it and putting it on my other bike lol so it will have a normal swing arm on it..the most distinctive part of the bike.
also, i have a front fairing / upper cowl whatever you would like to call it, for sale. its OEM and in perfect condition, primed, just needs paint. or I could get it painted for you for a few extra bucks. I know a guy, as long as its a basic color. Same goes for the seat, headlight assembly, cluster, and maybe something else, I'll look.

Hey Wayne... I was sorta replying more to Maddog about finding info on tail swaps...

but to look back at your question about where to post, I would say this same Gen3/Gen4 section. I've seen a lot of good info in here, and everyone can at least relate to the questions you need answered.

About needing lots of activity... I'm very new (less than 2 weeks) into the VFR world myself, so I won't be TOO much help. But there are some very knowledgeable guys around here and I'm willing to be every trouble/issue on the swap has already been covered at least once.

Now, how about those pics?? :)

05 CBR fairings will get you close but it will require some fitting. I have done this but my build was never intented for street so I did not have to deal with Lights, OEM Guages etc. You can look in my photo galley if you wish.

The upper is 100% unmodified. The Belly pan has been highly modified to accomodate the need for a full belly pan for the track and to get around the TBR headers. LOTS of fiberglass work.

Full belly pan for the track? Is that a race-requirement? or something for any track day?

I've never thought about that before...
