Hi, Perhaps there is a knowledgeable board member here who lives nearby and could help you out? You reference "rust in the tank". I think you may have drawn enough rust flakes into the fuel outlet from the tank to clog that as well as the petcock. With the fuel valve shut off remove fuel line from the metal outlet line on tank and then using something to catch fuel in case it is not clogged, turn on the fuel valve. When nothing or next to nothing comes out you have verified this is the issue. I have resolved these situations by first running a piece of mechanics wire up the metal fuel line and releasing rust clogs and in addition, if necessary, blowing compressed air into the metal fuel line. If you use compressed air be sure the filler cap is loose to relieve any pressure that may result once the line/valve are clear. Once you have cleaned out the rust from the tank it would be advisable to replace the petcock. They are available from Direct Line Parts or vendors on E-Bay. When you get to rebuilding the carbs, DO NOT separate them from the plenum they are bolted to. Remove them as a unit. If you don't the fuel tubes that run between the carbs will break and they can be VERY hard to find. I have rebuilt more VF/VFR carbs than I care to recall. They are relatively simple but my suggestion is to find someone who comes highly recommended and have them do it for you. Well worth the money spent. PM me and I can give you some contact info for someone other than me. You are on your way to having a fabulous bike. Good luck!

    Carb Boots here:
Order 4 of part number 8 from the fiche. Both front and rear carbs use same part number.

I was having all kinds of running issues with my old '86 VFR. Finally I just bought 4 Keyster carb kits and replaced all the jets. Ran fine after that.

    Good last choice.

Absolutely!! Do not ever jump a motorcycle while the jump vehicle is running. (unless the jump vehicle is another motorcycle)

Yes it's possible. The old girls have to have a good battery for the electricals to operate correctly.
