The New Years Ode to the VFR

Twas the night before New Years
And I was out for a walk
    The Honda store was near
And I was about with no one to talk.

Walking down the street toward a faint glow
Nearing the store fronts awash with fresh snow
I peer through the foggy mist and what do I see
The shining red and white “H” is like a beacon for me.

Following the glow, my footfalls become quicker
The white stuff now falling, the snow it gets thicker
With each step I’m closer to reaching my goal
Soon I’ll be there nearing the sign pole.

I step to the door and reach out with a hand
To my surprise it’s unlocked, thinking “How Grand”
Stepping cross the threshold and on to the floor
From behind a slight swish and quietly closes the door.

From across the room booms a voice both jolly and clear
The sound sweeps through the air as it comes from farther than near
And within seconds has reached forth to my ear
Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year

I browse through the store while the sales staff are near
But never to close as to interrupt the cheer
Wandering through the store, my heart starts to race
For what do I see shining from beyond the display case.

Off in the distance, bright, shiny and beaming
The glow from the lights has the headlights just gleaming
I see in the lights, it is just staring at me
Wondering if this, “Could my new owner this be?”

I stroll cross the floor an absolute vision to see
This gorgeous VFR seems to be calling to me.
What a machine this would be sitting in yard
Rather than behind the stores windows, frosted and barred.

Around to the side I move and just stare
I swing my leg up and over and I’m there
Coming to rest on the seat, it seems to feel just right
Oh to take this bike home, on just such a night.

The salesman approaches and what should he say
But here I am the last purchaser of the day.
Though I have yet to commit he seems to be sure
Here I sit on the bike, I have taken the lure.

Like a fish in the water, the bike feels so right
My mind starts to wander, what would it be like to take flight
My hands grasp the bars, my feet leave the ground
I lean myself forward imagining the sound.

The salesman hands me the keys, and says with a grin
We can write up the sales draft, a few lines to fill in
This phenomenal bike is destined to be mine
All that remains is a contract to sign.

I ponder the question that will soon come to mind
Like how soon can I ride and what roads shall I find.
Gazing out the window at the fresh fallen snow
Reality hits me “The ride home will be slow.”

The salesman walks off to the rear of the store
And disappears from sight through a small steel door
When suddenly he appears through the door at the side
“We have brought round the sleigh, your new bike needs a ride.”

In to the trailer, all the straps snugged down tight
Off we head to the house, she goes with me tonight
We arrive at the door and who should I see
But my dear loving wife and all the kids be.

For to my surprise, what should I find
The garage door is open with the salesman inside
Down the ramp glides the bike and on to the floor
There she now sits, proudly behind my garage door.

He hands me the keys and he says with a grin
There is yet a surprise for I must be filled in
Christmas may have come, all the presents had been chosen
But this little gift has yet to be opened.

We live far and wide and we all gather around
What we would all say is the best bike in town
It may be said “Oh, how crazy we are.”
Another new year to love thee VFR

The work now completed, the bike is now home
So very proud am I to call it my own
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year
To all at VFR World I wish you great cheer.

Actually no, writing the odd poem just happens. Honestly, I do autobody work for a living. I surprise my wife with a poem every once in a while and she just loves it. Have been known to get a bit verbose though, as I'm sure a few have noticed in a few of my posts. As I told my wife once on our wedding day, "We can live for life, but we can love for eternity." She still believes me to this day. Who would have thought.......................
