Hi, My name is Mike and i live in the Vancouver area (BC).Just bought a nice 92 VFR after looking at several bikes and will bring it home in the next couple of days. It's a really well kept machine but will likely get a few upgrades over the winter. A lot of my questions have been answered, already, in old threads but I`m sure i will be appealing to the members for advice.Apparently my new toy graced the pages of VFR world`s 2012 calendar.I have put a couple pics in the gallery. It`s gonna be a loooooong winter.......Mike

Welcome from the grand metropolesis of Chilliwack. Are you sure you want to start with upgrades on your newly aquired bike before you have had a chance to give the thing a good run? We should try to meet for a ride sometime. I used to ride into Slurrey every day so this is doable on my part.

Welcome to the forums. Way to put up a pick with your post!!!

I would also agree that you should try it as-is first. Then you will realize the difference your changes make.

BTW. Your bike looks like Miss October. But someone tinted the shit out of the picture and it looks almost blue. Looks to be in nice shape though. Take your camera with you every time you ride. Maybe you can get it into the 2014 calendar too.

Hey Randy,I bought the bike from a young guy in Abbotsford. Will definitely run it before I do any mods but the chain is pooched and so I will start there.Little too snowy for riding right now.I will be in Chilliwack between Xmas and Newyear. Doing some work in Sardis.Should hook up for a coffee and talk viffers. Will likely stay at Vedder river inn.For the record I was told that it's the bike pictured in front of the grafitti wall....Mike

That it is. I have the calendar. We are off to Burnaby for Christmas and Boxing Day but probably back late Boxing Day. We could meet for sure for joe or beer. There is a pub right across from the Vedder River Inn called the Jolly Miller. Reasonable pub food and clientele is pretty good I do live in Sardis. I will send you a PM with my contact number. Give me a call.

As for the chain. I have been through 5 or six chains and sprockets on mine. I have found that the D.I.D. is the better one for your money. Price is reasonable and they hold up well if properly maintained. I wouldn't even consider changing the chain and not the sprockets.

Wow, it has been 30 years since I have been to the Jolly. Being an ex-engineer, I had stumbled out of that place many times. Too bad I'm on the other coast and can't join you for one, or two, etc. Cheers

You wouldn't recognize the place now. Google it and take a look at the street view. Poma (owner) has done some great additions to that place. It is motorcycle friendly with parking for bikes right near the front door. Did you live in the PMQ's? If so, you would never recognize that area either. The whole area was re-developed into higher density housing but nice. Very few of those old houses were destroyed. They were gutted and moved closer together then remodeled. All that side by side duplexes were cut in half and independent houses were made out of them.

The formal portion of the base is now an Education Park. The Chilliwack campus of the University Campus of the Fraser Valley is there now. The RCMP moved in right after the base closed and now they have their Pacific Region Training Centre there. On going training for Federal agencies and some municipal Police but primarily RCMP. They built an $8M track out behind where the Forces had their big garage. You can see that on Google maps as well.

You're right Randy, the place looks totally different. I was a young, single guy, living in the shacks and terrorizing the streets with my gutless Yammy XS400.

It's sad to see how much money was available, after we moved out. Many of the current bases are getting run down to the point where we are using structures that should have been torn down years, or even decades ago. As long they go on saying they support us and believe themselves, things will probably never change.

The DND were midway through completing a school there when they announced that they were closing. They were never going to use that state of the art building, but they continued building it due to contractual issues. This school was used as a high school for a few years until the local high school could be upgraded and increased in size. Now it is a major portion of the university. OF course major renos had be be done as DND buildings don't necessarily meet local municipal codes. They didn't have to as they were being used by DND staff only. And the Feds own DND staff as you are aware.

All those newer concrete block buildings that quartered people there on courses have been reno'd to become single person quarters much like a hotel. RCMP own them now. O don't know what it used to be, but the complex immediately south of those quarters is now the RCMP School and mess. Nicely fixed up. I've eaten there a few times. They have a night bar there too.
