Just scored a 99 with low miles and bone stock. I already opened up the exhaust with my own creation. What else is out there for these bikes? I also just ordered a pipercross filter for the airbox. I want more power, looking into the PC. Any advice?

    welcome to the forum.

for more power, my advice would be to buy a CBR

How about some photos of your new ride?

You can do the filter and pipe. But like tinkering said if you are looking for speed should have gotten a faster bike to start with. Not trying to be a smart ass it's just the vfr is more of A comprise between a sports bike and a sporty touring bike. Besides how fast are you looking to go on public roads anyway?

I will get some pics up shortly. I really just wanted to sqeeze a bit more out of it. I like the motor and the riding position. I do understand the compromise just thought there was a little more power to be had. Seems to me to be lacking on the low end excel.

If you want to go faster, best money you can spend is on the bike's suspension.

Then you'll want to stop better, spend the rest of your money replacing 15 or so feet of 14yr old rubber brake lines with braided steel.

    Leave the engine alone

Just my opinion and what most people who keep a VFR long enough usually come to believe.

Congrats on the bike and welcome aboard!

If you need a little more low end grunt, and are willing to sacrifice top end, change the sprockets and chain. Down 2 up 1 (or more) should help. Note you'll need a speedo healer making that mod.

Yeah the party gets started in the higher RPMs.
Most people do comfort mods or suspension mods.
There is more room for improvement with the factory suspension.

agree with above. I think I may have gone up a tooth in the back or two, added suspension, steel braided lines, PC2 and pipe. I can't take a CBR or GSXR from the line, but I can run with them in the curves on the street all day. Hell I have even hung with them on the track pretty well till we hit a long straight.

I am gonna get more familiar with the bike and then go from there if need be. Overall I do really like this bike and I feel I got a real good deal on it also.

I just have my '98 dynoed on Saturday. It put out 101.7 hp. They checked the A/F ratio and the dyno guy said he would leave it alone. I don't have a Power Commander. I have a Jardine can on it that I got from a friend. The engine is stock. Do a valve check and adjust them if needed. That yielded some good results for me. Also check your R/R. I replaced mine with a MOSFET R/R and the added voltage made my bike run harder from the bottom up.

The other mods are in my sig.
