No problem with the pics, have tons on my PC and can easily build a flicker or photobucket account...problem is no where to download them to on this site...in my profile, settings, etc, every time I click on "gallery" or "photos", etc, it says I do not have access to view or post photos and I receive no download, browse, prompt at all. Moderators do not reply at all on this site. Very poor site management quality for such a great site that is worldwide. Guess I'll just have to post a link to a photobucket account tonight.

All you need to do and what everyone else does is copy the photo image file from photobucket (or whatever you use) directly into your post and they magically appear :) You can copy multiple files into one post, etc.....

I'm going to leave the oil system stock, it's got 35K on the engine and the cams and bearings look ok to me.

ah hah ! so that's the trick !...thanks. Just thought I'd try to set up a gallery to help others follow the progress and help in Tech issues as I've already had fellow members ask what goes where and "what went here" as I may well have one of the few all 100% original VF700F's left.

So you have the 84 in BLUE ?. That's the color I want the most but after looking for almost 18 years for a mint VF700F, and finding this one with only the 28 miles on it, I could not pass it up. So, part of my long journey on this bike is getting it repainted to EXACT, 100000%, perfection factory BLUE with RED stripes. The Colorite paint is $200 per quart, yes $200!!!, and I needed a quart of Candy Aleutian Blue, a quart of the 1000 Base for the BLUE, and a pint of Shasta White [in total I spent over $500 just in paint and all the parts go to the painter this weekend] and the stripes are already RED. There is a guy in Canada that makes 100% exact factory repro decals. All I needed were the RED stripes, rear tail "HONDA" word and the Tank decals. Those are the rarest tank decals by far since Honda only used the tri-color RED/ORANGE/YELLOW wing logo on the BLUE tank model and only for a few years. The other tri-color wings, like on my red bike were used over and over...once again making the blue bike even more desirable to some. My original Interceptor was a BLUE one so now you know why I have to make it match and Honda doesn't have any more plastic in the warehouse other wise I'd even buy all new Plastics to change to BLUE if I could. All my current photos show the red color as I want to document every step I do. I'll post pics tonight and wait til you see even the head pipes, they are still bright goldish/bronze...not even a sign that the bike has ever run befiore......just unreal finding this bike and I am still in shock as I have looked so long for one. I also wanted the 84 700 cause it did not have as much of an issue with the oiling system as Honda gave it a shorter stroke to compensate for the 50cc loss to the 750. But, as even the magazines attested to, the 700 literally "walked away from the 750 in acceleration and mid range pull"..and yes I still have the magazines !. The 750 would pass it on top end but from zero to 100 (most usable and normal range of riding) the 700 left the 750 behind. I know, I drove shall we say VERY IRRESPONSIBLY then. I grew up and went to college at UT Knoxville and we literally would do the Famous Dragon's Tail/Deal's Gap/Cap's Gap/Blue Ridge Parkway for lunch breaks back in the 80's when hardly anyone knew about it and there was almost NO traffic. Best days were Wednesday's we all used to know back then and the VF700 EASILY out gunned and out handled the Ninja 600's, Gs700/750 ES's and Yamaha's and even the VF750's...great "point and shoot" bike with so much torque and smooth and easy on the ride there via I-40 or the back roads we took through Maryville and Alcoa. Funny the Dragon Tail is so popular now with all the folks running stickers of it on their bikes and bumper stickers on their cars...probably did the dragon tail [being dead honest here] at least 600 times. We would literally go up and down and up and down for hours on end on weekends and weekdays when out of class early. By the time I left college to go into the Marine Corps I could almost draw the tail like a map on a piece of paper.
Sorry to ramble on but great memories !

Clean it up, put it back together and sell it to a museum that needs an '84 700.
I would be worried about each and every seal on a bike that old with that low of mileage.

In addition to some pictures of this project, can we have some paragraph breaks, too?

When I'm done every single seal will be replaced as I totally agree with you. The museum will be my own that I already have for my growing collection so once again...I couldn't agree more. I still intend on putting at least 100 miles on it when done just to relive the bike again. Hell, who knows, I may like it better than my 3 VFR 800's and just keep riding it...insurance is insanely cheap even for full coverage...benefit of being 52, no tix, and owning too many toys just for the "multiple vehicle discount"

i'm calling shenanigans until i see some visual proof. this is an odd story... you rode a bike 24 miles at less than 15 mph (roughly 2 hrs non stop) in what must be a very large neighborhood on 28 year old gas with 28 year old kreem in it?

1st i must scold you for riding a bike that old without ever even checking the gas. you gotta know better than that. did you check all the fluid levels before riding? you can cause SERIOUS problems not doing that. 2nd i have never tried but i dont see how in the world 28 year old gas even works. i restored an early 80's kawasaki for a friend of mine. his mother bought it brand new and (i forget exact mileage) it had about 500 miles on it (baisically new). it had fallen over on her in the driveway once and she got scared and parked it (full of gas and all). the gas in the tank almost totally gelled and you should have seen the carbs. i may actually have pictures on my home computer. point being there was not one single way in hell that bike would have fired at all!! it just sounds wierd to me

you may be 1000% honest and correct here but this would be all the more reason to post some pics!!!

    found them (on my FB)....

first pic is of the brake fluid in the master. you can guess how ell the front brake worked. second and third pics are of the carbs after having opened the float bowls for the first time in their lives. and just for fun the last pic was after a clean.

this is why i find your story so curious....

I didn't know you were painting it. I was assuming it was already blue. They sure don't give that Colorite stuff away do they. Fresh paint never hurt.

The 700 could pull the 750 in top gear roll-ons from 50mph more because of gearing than motor. The 700 had a 16t front sprocket while the 750 sported a 17t. Anyone who's dropped a tooth in the front can attest to what that does to midrange pull. Honda wanted the 700 to "feel" like a 750 and a cheap way to do so was drop a tooth up front. Cycle World showed the '83 750 at 11.67@ 115.23mph and the '84 700 at 12.44@ 107.52. I don't imagine the 700 got to 100mph much quicker, if at all than the 750. Of course this is all just useless info when both bikes are damn cool!

I have to agree with shabbybare, I sent several dozen Emails to every mod here about all the times I have seen Elvis. Did they reply? No, and I am still pissed. The King is not dead!

Hi Morgan, OK here's the beginning of some of the photos I have thus far. And I appreciate your input but I am a certified Motorcycle Master Tech (not the MMI crap either, the full 4 year FACTORY CURRICULUM), Maryland State vehicle Inspector, and been doing motorcycles for 39 years as well as flew in the Marine Corps for 6 years. Got my motorcycle license at 13 in Tennessee (legal back then in 1974) and have managed 5 motorcycle dealerships and work with 6 motorcycle internet companies to this day. Employed by my current motorcycle conglomerate for 25 years straight as of this April and worked for Honda, Yamaha, and Harley-Davidson Corporate. Studied Applied Mathematics at UT Knoxville, Deans list in Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Physics, Certified Triumph Factor Demo rider, Maryland State Motorcycle Vehicle Inspector and on and on all by the age of 52, 1993 AMA CCS Middleweight Supersport Champion, 7 roadrace class championships and multiple SCCA car racing attributes, multiple WERA championships and more.
Needless to say I have done a few thing on bikes, cars and Jets, built bikes, raced bikes and cars, built suspensions, motors, frames and on and on.. Yes I drove around my small 2 mile neighborhood about 12 times after returning with the bike from Ohio. Don't now why that seems impossible to you but common sense dictated I did not go far from home due to the age of the bike and gas situation I had and I had no license plate !!!!!!!!!!!!, Don't have any idea where you live but in Maryland and Tennessee that is ILLEGAL...I surmise it is also illegal in all other 50 states. Even included a scan of the title, notice date of sale and mileage (all in 2012) as proof !, and on and on again.
Point is , just cause it's not your bike doesn't mean it can't be true. If you don't know the thermodynamic flashpoint of even 28 year old gas, well preserved as was the bike, and think it cannot still ignite [tough though it may be] that is not my dilemma. Not trying to pick a fight bro but c'mon and give a FELLOW rider and VFR owner a break. There's enough cynics on the site without needing critics. Perhaps politely and respectfully "ASK" a fellow rider how something happened, or the principle behind it, instead of ASSUMING it is all junk they are saying. After all, you wrote what you wrote because you honestly expect all of us to 100% believe you don't you ???..so why is it so hard to believe someone else has an honest and great story as well. Only your stories are correct ?.

Now on to some pics since the "gallery guys" (moderators) can't fix the gallery:
