Hey guys, hoping someone can give me some advice/help.......

First, with winter settling in, I decided to do a bit of maintenance and change my air filter on my 2000 VFR. I bought it this past July and for some reason, never bothered to check the air filter  Anyway, I open it up and find out it has a K&N (it was in good shape)....no big deal, but I figured I would put a stock filter in so I ordered one. The problem, is, I found out there is supposed to be an O-Ring in the airbox lid and the base and of course whoever put the K&N in, discarded them (as they probably said to do in their instructions). Well...go figure but you can't get that O-ring separately, you have to buy the air box part as well! Here are my questions:

    1) Does anyone know where I can buy them?? Does anyone have some they would sell?

    2) Should I just not worry about it and clean and re-use the K&N?

Also, while I was in there, I was looking at the flapper valve.......Is there any advantage to eliminating function of that thing (block off the vacuum)?

    Thanks!

unless you ride on a lot of dry dusty dirt roads all the time the K&N is fine.

unless your building a race bike and are trying to shave every gram then to or to not to de-flapper and or de-PAIR may or may not be worth doing. i would say its more of a personal preference then anything.

also, not sure if you noticed but on this forum, upper right corner, there is the ability to search the forum. very useful function, give it a whirl sometime.

CRF - Can't help you out with your parts question.

As far as K&N vs. Stock - you'll always get varying opinions. Some guys will swear by K&N, others will say stock is better. The debate goes on and on.

Personally, I have a K&N. I clean and recharge twice a year, and all seems fine.

Ok thanks Pliskin, appreciate the info....After some thought, I will just stick with it and clean it as needed. I HAVE used them in the past and have really never had any issues. Also, from all the looking I have done, It is certainly not worth the cost or effort hunting down those airbox seals, hehe.

Zedicus, just an FYI that I did do a search first but did not really find a ton of info. I was just wondering what blocking it off gets you and it seams it helps in that midrange transition. Probably will just block the vacuum tube and also de-snorkel the lid. Not concerned about the pair system quite yet. The bike runs phenomenal and I am not going to go crazy with it (for once in my life, lol).

K&N flows better, doesnt filter as good as stock paper filters.

i need a snorkel, the previous idiot (owner) took the one out of my vfr.

if you are getting a slip on exhaust and a power commander i would de-pair and de-flapper.

the reason searching these is not terribly helpful, what you will find is what different people will tell you, different things based on opinion.

I would not depair or deflapper

pair has zero affect on engine performance unless you are getting an overlap with the O2 sensors causing low rpm throttle response issues.

there is science behind the flapper operation as shown in the link I provided.

Good points...and that is an interesting article. After all this, I am just going to clean and re-oil my K&N and ride the dang thing (in spring that is, lol).

Zed, my bike has a Staintune slip on on it already. Not sure I will ever do the PC, though I have thought about it. :)

The bike has 23K on it and runs perfect......I am resisting the urge to fiddle around on this bike though.....so far :) Only thing I have done is the R/R mod and Daugherty suspension.
