I've been having issues with my speedo lately (the one that tells speed, not the swimming kind..hehe). Anyways... back to topic so basically it jumps when I accelerate, cruise at a constant speed, decelerate, everything. jumps about 10-15mph up and down everywhere.

I've also noticed it goes back to zero when I pull the clutch in (engine idles) at any speed.

I've tried searching the forums with no answer, is it a sensor? or a R/R issue? please god let it be the sensor.

Hope to get it fixed soon, don't want to be going past the speed limit you know

My only experience with this was with an automobile. With cable driven speedo's it sometimes was the cable needed lube or replacement. Since your is electronic, it could be the speedo is shorting out. It could also be, as you suggested, the sensor or the r/r. Maybe someone else has had this problem and can give a better answer than me. But if you want to possibly rule out the r/r, you can do the test on it to see if it is good. The test, in case you are wondering, is to start with a fully charged battery (12.8 volts) start the engine and check the voltage (usually it will be about 13.5 volts). Start to rev the engine to 5000 RPM while watching the digital volt meter. The voltage should increase (according to the manual) to between 14.6 and 16 volts.

When my R/R went out, the first sign was a speedometer that was freaking out. So, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the first sign of issues with your R/R. That being said, my R/R died almost immediately (ie minutes) after the speedometer issue started, so if yours has been doing it for a while, it may not have anything to do with the R/R.

yea, my R/R should be fine the last time I checked all was good, and the speedo thing has been going on for a good two weeks.

I was reading through the manual, i'm probably going to look through the speed sensor right next to the left foot peg, unless someone else has any pointers. i'll let you all know how it goes.

what happened to the FAQ section again?

We are working on a VFR Wiki here:

    http://wiki.vfrworld.com

But the hard part of the Wiki is filling in the actual information. :)

    Same issue

I am bump starting the past couple days 'til my new battery comes in and am having this issue.
My RR is relatively new but my battery suffered over the winter plus I haven't been riding much this season and haven't been dillignt with the tender.
Before you look at your RR, I'd check your battery first.
The "tell" on my bad RR was falling needles about 1 mile away from home. By the time I was about 1.5 miles away from home, the RR gave up the ghost and I had to push 'er home.

Holy 3 year old thread revival!

The plastic cap that goes over the drive bolt wears out too.
