As the title says, have an '87 700f with a F2 rear wheel. Sprockets are showing some wear, and chain is on its last leg. What combination of sprockets are suggested for this setup? I'm assuming i will go with a VFR front, and CBR rear sprocket, unless the rear is interchangeable. The previous owner moved the caliper carrier on the swingarm to accomodate the new setup. This is my first chain final drive bike since I rode dirtbikes as a kid (have a few shaft drive airhead boxers), so I'm a bit clueless on the chain swap. What's a good setup/source for the chain and sprockets? i'll also be replacing the cush dampers and rear wheel bearings while I have it all apart. Finally, I cant seem to find anything in the factory service manual about front sprocket removal. I assume I just put the bike in gear, and torque off the retaining nut? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Will post photos as I tear into the work
Most of that is correct. VFR front sprocket, but it's interchangeable with a lot of other Honda bikes so they are easy to find. Rear sprocket needs to match the wheel. 530 chain with 114 links is stock I believe. Are you satisfied with the current gearing or do you want to gear it up or down a little? Don't put the trans in gear to remove the front sprocket nut. You could damage the transmission. Instead, put a piece of wood through the wheel and on the swingarm and then put a wheel spoke against it and let the chain hold the front sprocket. Same for tightening it.
