Hey guys I was doing some research and stumbled upon a thread where a guy installed a quick shifter on his vtec through his pcv and a grip mounted switch. Through some more research it seems pretty easy to do a similar setup with a pc3 USB and brake light switch mounted to the shift lever. I'm going to attempt this with in the next week or so, if any one has any advice or wants to follow along.

For the 1/4 mile, a quick shift kit should be near the top of the list for things to do.

    Keep us posted, Im interested.

Guj, thank you for not responding with the generic "go buy a cbr" response! Lol
I've pretty much got it all planned out. Only thing I'm not a hundred percent on is where I'm going to put the momentary switch at. The thread I saw, he did a push button on the left hand grip. I am looking into doing a momentary switch on the shifter.
The only problem is, we don't have shift rods...

I would kind of be a hippocratic if I did. The first four of the six mods I did were performance upgrades.

Who said that I'm going to use it on the street? I probably will from time to time, but if it makes you feel any better it will get plenty of track use. Now go play with some carbs and let the big boys talk efi.

I am going to start out at 6000 rpms and 85 milsecs and go from there. Hopefully I will figure out a switch mount tomorrow.

K&N, PCV, AutoTune, and TBR exhaust. I still have to play around with the autotune.
I put them all in at once, and it was a very noticable difference.
I shaved roughly 12lbs with the exhaust.
(I figured I picked up 6-8hp and 5-7ft.lbs Is that a reasonable estimate?)

Ive always thought about putting a nitrous kit on one of my vehicles, but Ive never pulled the trigger. Nothing outrageous, just a 10-15hp shot for a bike or a 50hp shot for a Dakota R/T.

Very cool. Yeah I'd love to do a 25 dry shot. With a second map on the pc to handle fuel duties.
Any ways I didn't get too far on the quick shifter today, basically just repinned the 9volt adapter for use with the quick shifter. What you have to do is move the red wired pin from the bottom left to the top left so that the pins are both on the top row outermost locations. Also I went switch shopping. I have one pull and one push brake light switch. I also tested to see if the shift kill is actually working by setting it to 4000rpms and 255ms, revving the bike past the min rpm in neutral and bridging the to wires and I can confirm that it does in fact work! Awesome sound and awesome feeling to be making some progress. I might get to play around with switch locations if I have time after class and SAE tonight.

spent a little time last after class and sae on the quick shifter. got the 9 volt adapter repined, and ran wire from the adapter to the general shift lever area. rode the bike at speed and can confirm that the shift kill feature does function correctly on the vfr.

also mounting a brake light switch seems like a pretty bad option. i am going to look into going with a micro switch instead, which should require far less travel and pressure to activate, which will hopefully prove more reliable.

    Pics?

Glad to hear it's working, and is pretty simple.

When you finalize a spot get a picture.

There doesn't seem to be any way to hide the switch. We spent all day making brackets to mount the switch on where the switch would get pushed as the shift lever was kicked up. The problem is when the transmission is under load, the shifter will not move at all. So I think the only way this is going to work, is by mounting a microswitch under the shifter that you would push with your foot as youre lifting up. Not exactly what I wanted to do, but it will be the most reliable and the most accurate. Or we could get sato rear sets and throw in a proper pc strains switch rod! Lol

Here is a little video of how the shift kill operates. The button gets pushed, fuel gets cut, the transmission is unloaded, and the bike slides right into the next gear. Whether its part throttle or wide open, the bike will upshift to the next gear, without rolling off the gas or pulling in the clutch. I almost feel as though this is as much a drivability mod, as it is a performance mod. Even kicking it up to the next gear, with low throttle openings at low rpms, it upshifts smoothly, with out any drama.
