    Update #2

Ok, here is another update. Here are two pics of the semi final completed undertail exhaust. Keep in mind that warmer weather is coming and I want to ride some so this is put together with that in mind. I still need to work out the plate holder and the subframe heat shield. It looks thrown together but its sturdy, but it works for now. The bike is much quieter with no exhaust leaks. lol The pics have been lightend for better viewing as well.

Looks good but you have to get rid of that 1 exhaust clamp, have it welded and it would be 100% cleaner looking.Nice work

I will be changing that clamp put to a different kind at the very least. I amgoing to try to have the pipe made in two peices to make it easier to remove. As I mentioned, it's just put together right now for the purpose of being able to ride and is not final. I appreciate the feedback tho. :thumb:

Well, for those who might be keeping an eye out for this, I have re-installed my D&D side mount exhaust. As the pics show, I got the CBR muffler mounted but after a few rides, I could see the tire was rubbing it when the suspension compressed. So I went a little different route and ordered a 9 inch dual exhaust tip from Hedman (the header company) that had glasspack resonators in it. I got it fabbed up and it looked like there would not be any rubbing issues. On a group ride last night, the tire was obviously still hitting (even witht eh suspension cranked all the way up) as the tip was pointed in a downward direction instead of level. Oh, the CBR muffler, top to bottom was about 4" and the dual tip was 2". I have seen two sets of pics of a 3rd gen with an undetrail exhaust. It seems to me the original subframe just does not allow the set up to be ticked in enough to provide the proper clearance. I might try at some later date, but right now I am once again fighting a charging issue that I thought I had corrected. :-(

Did the ones you saw have a solo seat conversion? Just curious because when Stoops & I where considering swapping tail section the rear sub frame on his bike was extensively modified/chopped. Which would allow all kinds of room under the tail for exhaust. If you do opt to go w/ the resonator tip idea you may want to consider adding a restrictor of some sort in the pipe(even HD straight pipe have these & they do run better with them in then with out). Just my two cents, it is a worthy pursuit though looks/ed cool.

Or...just take the sawzall out & eliminate the tail light & tuck the cbr muffler up in there. Or possibly more legit a stock kawasaki Z1000 muffler(just one side) I'll add a link to a pic in a minute.

Ok heres the link, I'm someone with a little time on their hand could take on of these & shorten it possibly even bend the tube a little to nicely tuck up under a tail section???

I saw a pic of one 3rd gen, with what looked like OEM plastic with an undertail. Can't say if the subframe was heavily modded or not tho. I may try this again at a later date. My money is getting tight and there are more pressing matters. :-(

Years ago I was following a 93 VFR down the freeway and there was something odd about it that i couldn't place. Finally i realised it had an underseat exhaust; twin mufflers coming out below the taillight (through the stock fender no less). Looked very cool and sounded good too.

Damn Vman, what a project, good for you to have tackled this one. On a small side note there's a dude in AU, can't seem to find him on VFRD thats where I first saw it. that did an excellent job installing an undertail system on his 4th gen. Now where the H is it?

Yeah, I was realy stoked about the undertail, mostly cause it's diferent. Those that saw it with the undertail, both the CBR muffler and the dual tip, liked the look. As for the charging issue, I replaced the R/R with a Ricks Motosports unit. That sucker is HUGE! I also relocated it to the inside of the subframe, instead of between the subframe and the cowl, so it was exposed to more air. So far so good on that issue.

Do you think the additional heat from the pipe will be an issue?

I didn't notice any real increase in heat. But then the days weren't real hot yet. But the issur I ran into was clerance. Major surgery on the subframe will have to be done, or anothe subframe moded to fit the VFR.

Are you thinking of the Phantom? 4th gen with a Wolf undertail exhaust.

From memory his user name on VFRD is v4racer, he has the same user name on www.ozvfr.net

I found this on bike pics. It's a crappy view point, but it looks like he managed to get the clearance needed.

Yeah but because it a gen 5 and the caliper is bottom mount his axle is already at the lower position. Thats where I need to counter sink my caliper mount bolt in order to turn my eccentric to that position. I have not given up yet. Thanks for the help. BRian
