A strange thing happens to my VFR. Occasionally, the engine would cut off suddenly after hard acceleration. What happens is I would accelerate hard and rev it up to around 6k or 7k rpm. WHen I let go of the throttle, squeeze the clutch and shift nito the next gear, the engine would die. So when I let the clutch out, the bike would either slow way down (in-volunteering engine breaking) or start again. I can't figure out a pattern that would cause this tio happen, only that it does from time to time and always after hard acceleration.

Anyone has any idea? Mine is a 2002 vintage with roughly 14000 miles. Other than that, it runs great.

    Bad injectors? Something electronic related?

Not bad, but perhaps clogged injectors?

Try putting some Seafoam in the gas. Run it for a time, then park it for a couple of days.

Thanks for replying. But don't you think that if the problem is due to clogged injectors, shouldn't it happen more often? For the last 5500 miles, I have experienced it only less than 5 times. And every time, it was always right after I whacked the throttle a bit and let go of it to shift gear. I thought it was the injectors right away and was running with some fuel additive for a few weeks. Can't say that it helped or hurt since it has been an intermittent issue.

I was just throwing it out there.....

Seafoam is a fuel additive duccmann. Run it through the carbs/injectors then letting sit gets the treatment soaking in and breaking up the gunk in the jets/injectors. It's good stuff, but perhaps not applicable here.

It has happened to me maybe 3 times, a couple time when I was under harder acceleration and ups-shifted twice before letting the clutch out. Weird, I know. Freaked me out. 03 VFRabs

For lack of better ideas, I will try the Sea Foam as suggested by Tusk. Can't hurt.
