Be aware that someone is perusing this Forum's Classifieds Section and targeting sellers. If you are not familiar with the Nigerian Scam, google it and read about it.

I was targeted yesterday. The "buyer" first sent me an email saying "she" was interested in the item for sale. I replied with information on how I wanted to be paid. The "buyer" replied to me saying that her representative in the U.S. would send me a certified cashiers check for $2500 and I was to cash the check, take my money and send the rest to "her" respresentative.

The scam is that I would cash the check and send the remainder of the money ($2200) to the representative. I would later find out that the check had bounced, and I would be liable to the bank for the full amount.

It's a common scam, but there are many people who are still unaware.

If it smells fishy, it probably is. Stay alert.

I had someone try that one on me recently with a local for sale site that I have an old truck posted on. They told me that they lived in London, England and wanted to buy my 73 Ford F100- as soon as I read that I knew something was up. then they told me that they wanted to send me a check for $5000 for something that I was only asking $1300 for. I would love to find the people that do this stuff and show them how mad it makes me.

When i sold my radian I got a few emails like that. It seemed legit on the surface until it got down to the emails where details were being worked out. After the first one, the following ones I recieved I just put in the reply that If they wanted to send me a bank check that would be fine, but I would keep the bike until it cleared the bank, and that the seller had to arrange for pick-up/shipping of the bike and transfer of ownership mus tbe made the day the bike was picked up. Never got any followups after that. lol

Who would sell something to a stranger using a check? I would tell them that I want a postal money order or paypal. If it was a check I would wait until the check cleared. If they are willing to send more money than what you are asking then its fishy.

I went all the way a few times with this scam. I like wasting there time and money. They send you a bogus check fedex so you know its costing them. Then I lead them on for a week after I get their check. I play stupid the whole time, saying Im sorry I have been busy, I will Western Union that money tomorrow. At the end I tell them that I need them to call me and give them the local Police stations phone number and address. I turned a few over to the Police with all the emails. Its fun and sometimes can help the local police out too. Just save all your emails and check. Might want to see if your local police are interested.

That is where they get you. The check (or cheque as it is here in Canada) does clear, initially. Then it will come back about 2 or 3 weeks after it cleared as being forged. Best bet is to just get them to send you the cheque, then don't cash it. Forward all info to the police, and let them deal with it.
Doesn't anyone else find it odd that the scammer can receive money from Western Union, but can't send it to you that way in the first place?

I am writing to you on a 20" flat screen that a scamer sent me and then wanted to forward to Russia. I figured since my name was all over the package I would wait for the authoriies to show up wanting it back. They still haven't came (knock on wood). It was also a major scam.

Yeah Dateline - that was a crazy show the other night. I had some dumbasses try that one on me when I was selling some stuff on Craigslist. I replied and told them I knew they were scammin and was reporting them! LOL. Dateline did a show a few years ago about overseas sellers having you use their broker for funds transfer and you get the run around for months until you know it was a scam. Some guy on the show got jacked for $40,000 for a BMW he thought he was gettin a good deal on. Poor guy.

I remember a few years ago when I was bike shopping, this ad on Ebay for a like new R1 for $3500 in some other country/island. I sent the "seller" a message asking about how one would go about "paying" him and asked if he would be suggesting HIS broker to send the money to. To make the story short the ad was gone in the next few days.

Hey, strong political statement there. If you are living in so much fear, why do you even ride? Oh yeah, big guns make you feel safe. Do you drive a truck with 12" lift too? DUH DUH DUH.

BTW, CH was the fake delivery service used to flush out the scam. I don't really consider Dateline the liberal news either. It's more of a documentary show. I have learned a lot from their shows over the years.

It saves time to think that they are liberal news until proven otherwise.
To answer your questions in the order you asked them... I am not afraid, I ride to save on gas and look cool. Yes, bigger the better. Yes, a full size blazer (hence the bike to save on gas) stock lift with bigger tires. It helps when it snows 3' to have a 4x4. Or were you not talking to me?

I was just bustin your balls. I too have a SUV that rarely gets driven now. It takes a redneck to know one, however I was reformed years ago. Have a good weekend of riding. I like the avatar too. I would like to have an AK-47 myself.

You mean one of these :

CH was for CHRIS HANSEN the interviewer ... The show tracked packages like yours on a fake website they sat up for people with stolen credit cards. He would deliver to the house and ask question to the people about what was going on. Some goof spent his entire savings using his own money to ship the packages overseas. I think Ill get in on this .... I good use some new electronics ... I can play stupid pretty easy :lever:

I was kidding. Never been involved in anything like that. I wish that I could get those guys sending me stock tips and Viagra emails to stop it. I don't need or care about any of it.

If you could get an AK I would suggest a nice Romanian WASR-10 I have one of those and it was a great starter rifle. I wish it was full auto sometimes. But if you can bumpfire you can almost see what full auto is like. But it is a waste of ammo to tell you the truth. I have made a nice hunting rifle out of it and I have used it to hunt dear. The SKS is a really good hunting rifle that is cheap and a lot like the AK. Its more accurate and only about $100. The WASR-10 I have seen go for $400.

I really like them and they are very reliable too. You can really throw sand in there and it will still shoot. I would never think of doing that with my AR its too delicate.

I like my truck too and I can make gas last a long time. I seen a truck the other day with the craziest lift ever. It must have been about 4' in the air. Give me a 4" lift any day. That is something that I am working on. I never did it though because the parking garage at my work was barly tall enough to let my stock lift in there without turning it into a convertible.

I had some losers trying to steal my Volvo S80 a couple of years ago. They wanted to pay me 25K for a car listed for 22K. When smart they get you buy not overshooting the price too much to seem believable. I reported them to FBI and Secret Service and had a really funny conversation with one agent who admitted they cant even follow all the leads on terrorists let alone scam artists.

sweet pic SLOVFR!! I like Dateline they nab the pedophile scum. One of my best friends used to always say "If you're scared,,,say you're scared"!!

Nice picture. Mine is gray with a blue stripe. It looks similar to that one.

Screw all the scamming scum. I think that some charges should be filed for those insider traders too.
