I have mixed brands of tires on this bike I just got and would like some imput. Front needing replacement is a worn Michelin 120/70-17. Rear is good Shinko R009. I'm not opposed to upgrading to a different matched set if it would make a noticeable difference. Or, should I stick with the Shinko brand and put one on the front? Thanks in advance for any imput! King (bare with me as I learn how to use this site and add photos!)

I don't have experience with that style shinko but the reviews are decent. It's W rated though, still in the clear I guess.

tires are like politics and religion. Gonna get tons of opinions and no "one" right answer. It's been my observation that most people prefer a matched set by brand and model.

Now what brand/model is all over the map.

Well it's cheaper to just replace front so Shinko it is! It's not like I'll be dragging my knee! Ill spend savings on a slip-on muff.

Sounds smashing mate!!! I would go to a restaruant named "Shinko" if they sold fried eel or some good grouper.

Well, as a former west coast Florida guy and frustrated surfer (no waves on gulf) i do love the
Grouper! In Oklahoma we just get Carp out of neighbors ponds.

I've been mixing brands for years with no issues, when they both go at the same time, I buy a matched pair, for the last 7-8 years--Bridgestone Battleaxe BT023 or my favs Conti's Road Attacks both great rain tires too. YMMV

I personally like the Pirelli Angel tire. It feels more solid than the Michelin tires the dealer pt on when I bought it. I've only done the rear for now but I couldnt say anything about any other brand. Time will tell how it holds up in rain and treadwear.

    words.

I had a shinko on the front of my vfr...NEVER AGAIN. Get a better tire like the Dunlop Roadsmart 2 or Michelin PilotRoad 3 for your front, and put the same on the rear when the shinko wears out.

I did what you suggested, I put a Bridgestone BT023 on front instead of cheaper Shinko. I like good quality tires!

Good choice. Another pro for the Bridgestone is that they always mount and demount fairly easily, usually go on by hand with good lube.

I have 009s on both ends of mine, and don't mind them at all. I have to run them at the top of the suggested pressure range to fit my riding style, but I tend to do that with most tires anyway. Once I have a bit saved up, I might spring for PR2s or PR3s, but so far no complaints with the Shinkos.

I bit the bullet and got another Brigestone for rear. I'll trade the Shinko for labor to install new one and the slip on muffler from Two Bros.
    Thanks

Tire selection is kinda subjective. I perfer ST (Sport Touring tyres) - I have been using the Dunlop RoadSmart tyres since they came out. I have had Conti tyres that I liked also. I stick with the RoadSmarts because even in winter temps in NYC they warm up quickly and on blacktop or concrete road they provide a very stable ride even in the rain. They also have a kinda flat profile which gives a softer smoother ride and are still nice and flickable. Generally speaking with todays technology most tyres are good and to me it is just a question of tyre profile, mileage, how quick they warm up and price. Consider the type of riding you do and climate where you ride and of course price and expected mileage. IMHO

I first went with just a front Bridgestone BT023 leaving the Shinko on rear that has good tread. Then decided I wanted the most out of the tires I can get which would not happen with a mismatch! If it quits raining, new one will be on by Saturday. Thanks to all for the imput.

I'm currently running a Michelin Pilot Road 2 on the back, and a Pilot Power 2 on the front. Good combo.
