Howdy....My first day here...don't know how to navigate this yet. Will be taking possession SOON of a 2008 VFR 800 . The bike was purchased NEW in 2011.... has 1036 miles on it. Do I still need to "break-in" this engine?????? What is the best air pressure to run? Never had a chain bike....lube how often and with what lube? Any suggestions about getting used to riding and maintaining this bike are Greatly appreciated!!!!!!! Labsetterman

The break-in period is just 600 miles, so you won't need to worry about it. The first thing you should do when you get the bike is to read the manual. That will give you a better understanding of the features of the bike and what you need to do to properly maintain it. Congratulations and welcome to the forum. I won't ask for photos ... as Scubalong already pointed out ... others will be demanding them shortly ...

Welcome to the forum. DON'T LET SCUBALONG NEAR YOUR BIKE! He made me drop mine.

Ask what oil to use will cause all sorts of sarcastic answers here. Use a quality oil that is safe for bikes. Synthetic vs regular oil is yet another point many will argue. I have been running synthetic in mine since new August 2006 and now I have 100,000 miles and no complaints.

I have in the last year switched my chain lube from PJ1 to Dupont Chain Saver. The lubrication value of the PJ1 is fine, but there is a lot of fly off from that and makes a mess of you rear wheel. The Dupont stuff is just fabulous in my mind. Lube chain after a ride when the chain is warm.

Now as far as the break in goes, for the sake of the cost of a filter and some oil, I would assume it has not been done and would do it anyways. It certainly will not hurt your bike. ANd if it had not been done, then that is some pretty old oil in that bike isn't it?
