It seems like we've had a lot of bikes go down this summer with bad R/R's.
I'm curious to see just how many. To keep this thread clean, list the mileage on the bike, what year (if not in your other info) and the circumstances (how it died, over or undercharging), and what you replaced it with.

My 98 died at 16650 miles after a ride home from work when it was 95 degrees out. Undercharged. Replaced with upgraded Honda R/R.

Is this thread for all years or just the 2012 model year and are you looking to find out just the ones that failed this calendar year or all years up till now?

2007 vfr800abs - failed 2 days back after doing a cross Europe haul (1,200km) cruising at 150kph in 34c heat. I have a Accumen DGV voltage meter fitted - and coming into Calais spotted the volts seesawing wildly 14.8 - 17.8 and back by the time I was on the ferry both dipped beams bulbs were blown which proved to be a good thing - as it allowed me to make it home from Dover to London before the battery gave out. Next morning no life in battery - tried optimate and ran the checks - obvious I have cooked the battery as well. Add in time for another pair of BT23s and this week has been rather expensive :(

Spoke to the local Honda dealer - they said even the uprated RR fitted to 2006 on models won't last forever especially if it gets super hot - they see them like brake discs something we should expect to change every so often - at least I got 49,000 miles out of mine so not bad going.

1998 44k Replaced both R/R and battery about 2 weeks ago. Battery was purchased by PO so I didn't know how old it was (no markings I could find on it). Battery wasn't holding a charge and voltage readings I measured showed it was undercharging. Put in a R/R from Rick's through Wiremybike. Bike sat 6 days without riding, fired right up, would not have happened on old battery, so I'm happy.

Really, Rich? Well, OK then. The R/R is the regulator rectifier. Basically it regulates the current throughout the bike - make sure the battery is being charged correctly, adjusting for electrical loads, etc. A bad R/R leads to all sorts of havoc. Bad things man, bad things.

Being that you have a 2007, not nearly as much of an issue as Honda finally got it together. It was mostly from the 1990 to the 2006 models.

Use the search here and you'll probably find as many R/R threads as there are tire and oil threads.

And to keep this thread on topic: My R/R was replaced in January. 13,000 miles on the bike, but the R/R had been replaced by the PO. It was from a blackbird. So technically, this is the 3rd R/R in 16,000 miles. I replaced it with one from JT at wiremybike (Ricks) along with the VFRness. I elected to solder the wires from the stator to R/R. Just because.
