Four of us just returned from a trip. On the last night we stayed at the Woodsman Country Lodge in Crescent, OR (on hwy 97 south of Bend). My buddy and I have been staying there since 1999, and in fact stayed there just last month with our wives on a trip to Crater Lake (by car).

When we checked in we were told that this was the last time we'd be allowed to stay there when riding our motorcycles. The owners had had "problems" with motorcyclists, and instead of dealing with the problem people they decided to ban everyone based on their mode of transportation.

I wonder if a group of Asians had caused trouble if they would put up a "NO ASIANS" sign.

At any rate, please inform all your friends, family, enemies, whatever that this establishment should be avoided.

I guess they've never dealt with any assholes in the past who drive cars? Maybe they should only rent to Buddhist Monks so that they never have problems with anyone ever again.

They'd probably complain about the chanting.

It is their business and they can turn down whoever they want. We spoke to some people at the restaurant nearby and were told that the owners have turned down loggers, hunters, truck drivers, and a woman in a wheelchair (because they didn't want her chair damaging the furniture). We're now on a mission to ruin them.

Wow, who CAN stay there then? Those Buddhist monks really can piss you off with their serenity and tolerance.

If you want to spread the word then log on to TripAdvisor.com and post a review. Don't forget to add that picture to your post.

I hate to say it but people may think that is a positive ban at this establishment because of the negative press most "bikers" get.

Keep in mind; for many years signs that read "No Colored" we're posted all over southern states and it didn't seem to bother too many people until it received national attention. Go figure...

Already wrote the review on TripAdvisor (sans the photo, and TripAdvisor doesn't appear to let me edit the review). Also reviewed it on Google Local, Yelp, my buddy wrote the AAA (they're AAA endorsed), posted on Facebook and G+. We're trying to get the word out there.

One of the reasons that they gave was because people felt threatened when there were motorcycles in the parking lot. I can understand if there were a bunch of beer-swilling tattooed bikers with loud-pipe Harleys, but that isn't the demographic of our group.

Dude, why are you so bent about this? Your analogy with race cracks me up. I have rode all of my life and i can understand how they can ban motorcycles. I within a mile or so of few open pipe harley owners for years. Those assholes would wake the entire neighborhood for years. Setting off car alarms, rattling windows over and over. I am just saying that a small minority can ruin it for all. I do not agree with it..nor would i give them my business but i can understand how a pack of loud bikes rolling in at all times of the day and night rapping up their bikes. Cruiser and sportbike alike. They might have a more difficult time with a "harley ban" or a "let me take the tme to determine if your bike is too loud ban" so they just ban them all to make it easier.

Some HOA's ban bikes because of noise......again....this all happens because of a few inconsiderate assholes who would rather die than have a stock pipe (or respectable decibel aftermarket pipe)......so they unfortunately ruin it for us all. Sad but true. Why else do we have so many laws for everything from what toilet paper that you wipe your ass with to "i cannot take responsibility for my own stupid actions" so make a law for everything in the outside world so i am safe.

If you think discrimination of any sort is fine, hey, more power to you. I find it surprising that anyone who rides would be accepting of this.

Fact is, assholes are assholes, no matter what vehicle they arrive in. What's next, a sign that says, "NO TWO DOOR COUPES" because once someone in a sports car stayed there with a loud muffler? Deal with the assholes, not with how they arrive at the property. Based on the feedback of the people at the restaurant, this is a pattern of behavior with these owners. They have denied rooms to truckers, firefighters, loggers, hunters, and a woman in a wheelchair (they didn't want her chair dinging the furniture). Personally, I won't stand for that. More power to you though if you want to defend them.

You must not have read any of what i wrote.....or did so in anger and that affected your absorption of my words. I disagree with their policy but i understand it. You have to look at the big picture regarding any issue and all different factors. Many people have horse blinders on when they look at or read things. These owners might have low tolerance after years of issues with bikers. I know a person that left some scratches on the hotel doorway and grease on the carpet from when he took his bike in his room. That costs owners money and/or business. I know lots of people that bring bikes in the room....this could be one reason..that and noise from rowdy partiers. Again..i am not defending these particular people...only giving reasoning for any hotel/motel owner to do this in the first place.

If the wheelchair incident did happen .....said handicap lady coulda/woulda filed a lawsuit and got big money and forced changes or they would be shut down. That is what concerns me more than the "no bikes" policy.
    She still should do so.

If they have done all that you say then i hope they deserve what's coming to them.

They probably couldn't find a sign that read "No Loud Bikers" so they just went with all of us instead. I'm thinking that if they saw the chaos caused by your lovely lady just above my post, they would get a sign saying "no Big Breasted Beautiful Women".

No wthat would be a shame!

DUDE.....where's my car??? You ain't done did me reading what I writes! Maybe you are just still fantasizing about banging your SIL? Just PULL THE TRIGGER BRO! She wants YOU!

In post #8, I said "They might have a more difficult time with a "harley ban" or a "let me take the time to determine if your bike is too loud ban" so they just ban them all to make it easier. " They are not going to be out there with a "noise dosimeter" trying to figure out what is acceptable and what is not.

As I stated a few times, maybe THESE people are in the wrong, or maybe they are just plain bad people, but a few bad apples can ruin it for the rest of us in many factors in life. That is why I ride (and drive) with consideration for others, and knowing all to well that what I do can and does affect others on the road as well. Too many do not understand this and just love living in their own little world.

It just saddens me that many people have such a low ability to read and interpret, as evidenced by some of the comments in this thread. I call it the "herd of sheep" mentality.

I will show my decision by not giving people like this my business.

At least they let you stay that night with a warning, they could have been super uncool and made you leave.
It's a slippery slope when you have a business and start "choosing" who you will take money from. I would just let them be, they will either go out of business or have to go back to allowing people to stay there.
I understand your anger, if a place I patronized for years suddenly refused my money for some silly reason I'd be pissed too.

In California a lot of "service" establishments have signs hanging up that read..."We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone". Since this is a general statement, not sure you can classify this as discrimination as it does not single out any one group. Also not sure of the laws in Oregon either, but as business owners they may have the right NOT sell their services to anyone they deem not suitable to their establishment. I'm guessing that legally they might have a leg to stand on if they were to be challenged, if they can prove that this "type" of clientele is disruptive to their business and has even caused loss of income. Personally by singling out a particular group, in this case "bikers", they might have crossed the "discrimination" line and that they may be making themselves a target. Not just to folks like you Craig or any responsible motorcyclist, but to those they are trying to keep out. Imagine a group of 1%ers coming in late at nite looking for a place to sleep and seeing that sign! I'm sure they would take their frustration out in some way, shape, or form. (Or maybe that's just my perception of a 1% reaction. Stereo types do exist!).

Did you actually talk with the owner/manager to see what the issue(s) is/are with "bikers"? It might be that they are only really referring to the 1%ers or loud bikes in general and that it was easier for them to just ban all bikes than try to explain to someone coming to the front desk that the bike they saw in the parking lot was acceptable but yours isn't! They might even want to consider changing their sign to read..."No loud vehicles". Did you offer any suggestions, like changing the sign, reserving a section of parking away from the bulk of rooms, must walk bikes in the parking lot, etc?

Although I can agree that this isn't the best way of handling this, I think they are trying to run their business the best way they see fit and riders like us have the right to go somewhere else that accepts our business.

    Cheers!

Finally, somebody who reads and understands!!!! All I wanted was someone to look at the big picture and other angles to understand what would make people do such a thing (who have for years been accepting motorcyclists). It is NOT easy to own and run a business, much less deal with issues like rowdy clientele, and people scaring away customers, disturbing the peace and tranquility that they offer. As I have mentioned 100 times before, it only takes a few to ruin for us all, unfortunate, but just the way the cookie crumbles.

Just saying....take some time to understand why it might be so, and you might be more understanding, and they might be as well. Going and talking to the owners about it might be the best approach to understand their viewpoint.
