    Hi guys,

I'm going to install a helmet lock on my 6th gen. I was thinking about a real basic Motion Pro generic helmet lock.

The lock needs a 7/8 inch tube. I was hoping to attach the lock to the tube on the left side of the bike that runs under the keyhole to remove the seat.

    A couple of questions...

    - Is this tube 7/8 inch?

    - If so, any reason to NOT put a helmet lock there?

    Thanks for your help, guys!

    Rich

I have seen people used this lock on a 6th gen, I believe it is 7/8 and they work well without any issue.

    won't fit

I have the motion pro lock and it does not fit a gen 6. the VFR tubing is too fat.

I ended up buying an old Yamaha helmet lock and drilling the sub frame. Of course, I took my passenger pegs off so had a nice big surface to work with. Will post pic when I get home from work tonight.

I stand corrected! I going to assume there's more than one diameter for the I just bought the wrong one. There's no way I can grind down the one I have to make it fit.

Anyway, I bought a helmet lock from a 92 FZR/Yamaha for about $25 on ebay (mailed from Thailand) but it seems genuine. It has a flat bottom and a Torx screw in the center where I put red epoxy over the head as to cover it. That's the only color I had around, I will be re-applying black as it is unsightly.

I took the passenger pegs off so just drilled a small hole in the peg mount/subframe. Works great. But won't work if you ride 2 up. Or judging from your Avatar picture, Scubalong, 3 up...

I once came out to find it was raining on my bike and my helmet (on a helmet lock) was making a fine fishbowl. Since then, I either put my helmet upright on the tank between the bars or carry it with me.

6th Gens don't have a helmet lock? My 5th gen does, and uses the ignition key, so I think it's factory.

    Thanks for the replies.

The 6th gen's helmet lock is under the seat, which is plain stupid. It's a PITA to get the seat back on once you've gotten it off, and who wants to take off the seat anyway!? It's doubly annoying because my 1994 Kawasaki Ninja (13 years older than this bike) DID have a helmet lock!

I already ordered the 7/8 inch lock. I guess it won't fit but I have the passenger pegs off already and I'll see if I can make it work like REEK did.

As for the fishbowl, been there, done that! I was using a regular Master Lock which locked the helmet onto the passenger peg bracket. It always fishbowled. Then I had to make sure to dry it in the sun because one time it mildewed. I'm planning on getting a waterproof cover for the helmet and keeping it in my tank bag.
