Just a note, next time you are wearing foam earplugs try this: put your foam plugs in the freezer. take a qtip and apply a little hand lotion around your ear canal (at the entrance only) Push frozen earplugs in without "rolling" them. You will now have the quietest fit possible with foam plugs. Try it and you'll be amazed. Only takes about 30 secs to a minute in the freezer, and they are not too cold. I always start my ride like this when I'm not using my I pod. My earbuds push into the ear canal and cut out ALL noise except the music and I can use really low volume levels. However, in I pod mode I hear very little else but music. Try it before you slam it!

I have personally tried out over 700 helmets for fitment and noise levels. Problem is I can't remember all that shit and that sciency stuff throws me for a loop or I would share.

I will warn against this. Unless you want to do a face plant. 30 - 60 sec in the freezer should be no problem. Any longer and you will probably run the risk of caloric vertigo.

How many helmets are you willing to try? How much money do you want to spend on helmets? Earplugs are probably what you will wind up doing....it doesnt take that long to get used to, and you can get all manner of custom ones made. Look at it this way, if you get the plugs custom made and they work for you well, youre free to get any helmet that you like.

@diveVFR....this caloric vertigo, tell me more, is it better than alcohol?

I'm wondering since its so hot all over, it might be as good to stick your head in the freezer and just roll those foamies.

A look at the mixed gas law will sorta explain what happens to those plugs in the cold. Boyles Law for the fussbudgets.

It sucks but it can be funny ass hell. Basically the sudden temperature change close to your inner ear will cause a vertigo effect. Loss of balance and dizzyness is common. Nausea and vomiting may occur. Think of it as a brain freeze in your ear. It sucks for a short amount of time till your body re-acclimates to its normal body temperature. It can make you a cheap date for someone elses entertainment.

Very impressed BB. (mixed gas law=Boyles Law) I have lived, worked, practiced, and discussed this law countless times...

Most lawyers and politicians generate a suitable medium for calculation , especially after an ingestion of copius amounts of frijoles.

Good to know, I just ordered a RF1100 from Denis Kirk. $372 on clearance for a graphic design. I certainly hope that it's quieter when new than my old RF1000. I wanted the Vortex but it just didn't fit with a couple of pinch points that would have been painful after wearing it for an hour or two.

I rode to my local Bike shop this morning and they had a Shoei RF1100 (Enigma Silver/White/Black) marked down to $399.99. I made it mine (ok, it's on Lay-away :frown:), and I got the dark smoke screen thrown in for free. I hope to have it paroled in a few weeks.

If it called your name from as far away as the local bike shop, it can't be that quiet.

That's the one! These are very popular with the SanFran cruising crowd. They sell them by the carload to harleydoods and those that don't even have bikes.
