    Hey guys,

My chain has a major tight spot in it that makes it very hard to adjust....I think the guy I bought it from let rust. So...I am thinking about getting a new one and was wondering what;s you guys would recommend for a brand and size, etc.?

530 DID. RK is good too, but DID is my first choice.

I am still running a DID well after when I would have changed the others I have used. Lots of wear left on it. When it is time,. I will replace with another DID

Either site will provide the size for your bike. Both suppliers have many chain types. The most efficient change is to change both the sprockets as well as the chain. Who knows since you do not really know if the current chain is "rusted", you might try cleaning it with a "grunge tool" and a through lube job. Could be too that the current chain is not correct.

I bought the bike a month ago and the ownner claimed new chain and sprockets were installed. The sprockets look new. The chain was a bit dry when I got it with a bit if rust but not crazy. It might be able to be cleaned but I am just gonna start new and do a new chain for peace of mind...this one has a clip master link which worries me too.....although I just finished a 1250 mile trip around lake michigan  The chain had to be adjust twice though!

Sounds like you need to find out where the old owner bought the chain and sprockets if this is fact. Clipped master links are fine unless installed backward.

Two chain adjustments on a relatively new chain and sprockets in 1250 miles is not unusual. With a centerstand it takes all of maybe 3-5 minutes.

Best bet here IMO is to change out the whole assembly with one of the suggested brands. These guys do know what they are talking aboot.

Right...I would'nt be so concerned if the chain did not have such disparity between the tight and loose sections....it makes it almost impossible to do a proper chain adjustment. The sprockets look perfect so am just going to put on a new chain and be done

I know the rule of thumb is chain AND sprockets......but being that they are fairly new I am gonna roll with em. I am stubborn that way  If they showed any signs of wear or hooking it would be a different story , hehe. I honestly average about 3-4K miles a year anyway.....

Never have really thrown a chain. Had one break in a primary case on a pre-unit Triumph once. Sound and Fury signijfying a shitload of welding filing, sanding and buffing. Gotta figure that the drive sprocket is turning engine RPM and a thrown chain at speed could do some real damage.

Had one not break when I blew a rod in a flattracker. Locked up the rear end in the marbles and put me into the wall. No more roundy-round that year.

So Long, you got phone numbers on those chicas? ;)

I got about 2.5 months of riding left before winter sets in and I just finished my big trip for the year, lol. I will say this...the VRF is one heck of a good sport tourer! Next step come fall is getting the suspension done by Mr. Daugherty

You probably were a roadracer too, got 75mpg or more on all your bikes and maxed out the speedo on them all. Have Mr. Daugherty take a look at your chain when you bring the bike in. I know he can multitask.

Sorry.. One of the tricks to reading these threads is to remember to at least scan through some of the previous posts. Specifically, the pic of Long tells the whole story of the phone # question and maybe even a clue as to that bigass grin on his face.
