has anyone done a complete front end swap (pre 2000 Fireblade or VTR 1000 Firestorm) or a caliper swap ?

I am considering swapping the original 2 pot sliders for some 4 pots with floating discs. Would consider the full front end swap - I reckon some of the Fireblade or VTR front ends should swap straight over, same length steering stem etc

Any thoughts or experiences at doing such ?

theres lots of info to be found on this. but off the top of my head, i believe the VTR legs in their entirety or if you want, just yhe lowers are a direct swap. not sure if you can re-use the front wheel. then you can search around for VTR caliper upgrades. i think late model fireblade calipers fit.

if youre planning an entire front end swap, i would consider some USD 929 or 954a forks. i havent priced out ato VTR front end but USD with a front rim, generally looking at about $1000.

Go to vfrdiscussion.com and search for frankenviffer, you'll find everything you need.

I used 2000 R1 forks, 2000 SP1 RC51 triples, and R1 calipers, axle, and front fender on my 3rd gen with stock front wheel and discs. Very nice.

looked into the 98 blade calipers - that could be the go - 60mm between eye to eye for the blade 80mm for the VFR - need to get a set to see hot the calipers line up with the standard discs - the journey begins.

How does the bike handle now after the upgrade?? I'm just finding it hard to get confident in my bike after driving newer stiffer sporter bikes for the last 9 years. brakes and suspension feel uninspiring to say the least

It drives great, especially with a rebuilt Ohlins rear shock and hyperpro spring. Braking is better, control is better, albeit a little sensitive compared with the old suspension. Whereas I used to just ride, now I notice every detail of the road, its that good. Of course, while it was all in pieces, I had the front forks rebuilt and installed new hyperpro springs, as well.

    Looks dynamite, too.

Personally, rthe single best upgrade ever.

The nice thing is you can buy bits and pieces as you can, and get it all set and bascially do the entire swap in a weekend.

    3rd gen front end

    Lets see if I can.

2000 R1 forks, calipers, and fender. RC51 SP1 top and bottom triples. 3 rd gen axle turned down 1 mm, wheel, bearings, and rotors. SS lines.

Lots of miscellaneous nuts and bolts from the hardware store. Painted fender with Colorrite 3 stage system for NH132P from Honda.

Forks rebuilt with Hyprepro springs and fluid by Yamaha.

Works real good, looks stock. The gold looks nice with the white.

I've seen the gamut of fork swaps - lots of great swaps out there. For your VTR question --- If you wanted to do the VTR route, it will drop in to your 4th gen without much problem. Also consider buying the lower fork legs and adding to your upper tubes. That will work out too. I did that on my 5th gen to dump the linked brakes. -- Click my links below or look at my gallery on what it looks like.

    3rd gen front end

    You mean these:

Covertibars with Hayabusa master cylinders. Picked them because of their narrow profile and clear bars well.
