Whoe - that's the first time I've seen Hp curve up around 105 with basically a stock header for a '98. I'm wondering if mine is close with the BMC airfilter and PCII and wrapped headers and carbon slip-on. -- To the dyno!

Before I have only seen that kind of juice with a full header from Erion.

Are these Motad pipes larger diameter that the stock '98's? I looked at them on thier website and they look pretty sweet. But if there is no additional gain from them - I have to pass.

cannot speak for yours, but i just installed Motad pipes and my milage when way down to 36mpg. also removed the o2 sensors, so it kind of requires a custom map to the Powercommander.

David - could you measure the outside diameter of the pipes at the header on the Motad system?

I feel very lucky to get such a strong motor, Can't stress enough what a huge difference the PClll with a custom map did to the rideability of my bike. The only performance Mods. are Staintune high mount, PClll with custom map and a K&N filter...

David02VFR, don't know if you have seen the other thread, specific to the Motad Headers, but if you could comment about how you found their quality that would be great.

Mello Dude, The outside diameter is 1.35 inches, and a half @$$ inside of about 1.25 inches. used two different micrometers to measure the outside.

    hope this helps

hey Spike, have not seen any of the threads, but here is how i feel.

The one thing you must understand is that these pipes come out of Europe and the Europeans do not really care about how a weld looks. Unlike the Japanese and Americans who are always in search of the perfect weld. Motad use to make the stock pipes for Triumph when Triumph made it’s come back several years ago. Outside of the not so pretty welds, and some splatter, the metal used is of high quality stainless steal and they are layed out perfectly.
Installation only took about 2 hours, and the sound and power gain are well worth it. I could have gutted the cat or picked up a set of 98 headers, but the way i think is that how much time and effort would it take me versus paying $600.00 for a new set of pipes.
if you want to see what i went through go to this site. check out the movie posted also

Is removal of the catalytic converter the only change, by putting on the 5th gen exhaust on a 6th gen? I would really like to know what else is better about the 5th gen exhaust. Also where do I get one of these PCIII's, and how much do they cost? thanks.

Here is what I have done so far. I drilled two 3/4 in. holes in the rear of the cat and used a 3/4 in whole saw to gut the cat. then took the thing down to a muffler shop and had them weld the holes closed (cost 20 bucks and took 3 hours total). I removed the O2 sensors and plugged the holes with short bolts I found in the garage. Then I intalled a used set of two bros. slip ons. I purchased a PCIII with the O2 sensor plugs and used the map from the web site for K&N with TBR exhaust. ( i'll get a custom map asap). I purchased a K&N and installed it too. I think I'm gonna perform the PAIRs mod and the snorkel mod tomorrow, as well as the flapper mod. As soon as I get it all back together, I'll ride it and see what the power difference is. I'm still trying to find out what the evap canister removal mod consist of and what to do with the vacuum lines. any help out there?

oh and i forgot to say that when you take off the center stand, the bolt on the right side of the bike has reversed threads. It's not the lock tight that breaks the bolt off! I learned this the hard way.

the vtec runs all off of oil. there should be a solenoid located somewhere not sure on the bikes. but if you want a little more power sooner you can hook up a vtec controller and dial it down to kick in at lower rpm's
