So after some thought I figured I would start a thread to discuss and share information on Chinese sourced Fairing parts for the VFR. Now that I have first hand experience on the subject and I feel that there is a demand for this information, here goes,

The pictures below are of a fairing kit sourced through the Moto Parts Super Store on e-bay. They cost about $500 USD including shipping and took about a month to arrive at my door. Actually I had them shipped to the States because it is cheaper and then I went down and picked them up. The kit emulates the 2007 25th anniversary paint scheme but they are quite clear in their advertisment that buyers should not expect a paint match to OEM and it doesn't match at all.

For starters, here is a picture of the box as it arrived,

It had suffered a severe blow along the route from Bejing apparently.

So now a picture of what they call a tank cover. I suppose it is supposed to slip over your tank to complete the transformation of your bike to the new design but just look at how misshapen it is. Not to mention the big crack. Nobody likes a big crack!

OK so here is a picture of the tail fairing forward LH attachment point. You can see that the hole is rough, too small and it isn't quite where it needs to be either, sooo

    Then we do this,

    And get this,

You will also run into issues such as this where the tabs are welded / glued on and the fasteners don't fit properly,

This is also an issue in a few places,

You will also get some strange bend such as the back end of this LH fairing.

I wasn't happy naturally and I filed a complaint which was responded to and we settled for an undisclosed quantity of $$$$

In the end I would have been better off buying damaged OEM and repainting it which is what I will now do and sell this off or keep it for track days in the future.

That is the end of the story.

Hey that is just what we do around these parts. I will post up some more pictures later of the upper fairing and the two lowers.

I think it is so important to recognize that it isn't all bad. I started with no fairings and now I have a set that I can use. They aren't a point of extreem pride but from a few feet away they look pretty good, much better than cracked or rashed plastic. A full set of OEM fairings will run somewhere near $1500
plus shipping so at less than a third of the price you arguably get more than a third of the value but value is a very subjective thing.:potstir:

When I bolt my OEM Red bags on this electric blue and white beast, it will be quite a mess but at least I'm not riding naked!

Just went through this myself with my FJR and must say it was an evil I had to live with. Roughly $2500 dollar difference from OEM to the after market. Was not a doable project at that price.

I was going to have them resprayed but to invest that kind of money in these fairings just doesn't make sense with the cost of these new water based paint systems. No wonder insurance rates are climbing.

So after a bunch of trimming, cursing, drilling, bending and general screwing about late at night, I now have a set of clothes on the old VFR..

She isn't going to win any beauty contest but at ten feet she will pass as complete.

Small issue here with the O2 sensor wire routing! This is a 5th gen exhaust so the O2 bung is in a different place that the stock 6th gen system. For some reason this isn't and issue on a 5th gen bike....

The windscreen is just a POS. It is made of material that is way too thick and the shape of it just makes me ill to look at so I will get a stocker to install asap. In the mean time I will trim this one down so it isn't quite so obnoxious.

about on par with my experience, minus the misshapen part. plastic is low quality and not worth more than a rattle can or two of krylon if youre going to repaint.
