Okay, guys. It looks like I'm gonna have to buy a new helmet dammit. I like my old one, but it's already been through one get off then one fall off the seat so... I am looking at a few. Take a look at the links and share any info you know about these. If you know of another one that I haven't listed, let me know. I'm into matte finishes and skulls or other design elements besides just color splashes as a general rule. I'd like to have an idea of fit if you know, and definitely wind flow vs. noise. Also if you have an idea of the weight in comparison to a KBC, it would help. Thanks. Here are some links to what I'm looking at:

Hey Reg--sorry again about your crash. Always frightening and expensive any way you cut it.

about the lids.. i've always worn Arai or Shoei mostly, but I had dealer cost for several years. Fit wise my head is Arai. Pumpkin heads are Shoei:pound:700$ for an Arai? Not as enthusiastic about that.

I've never worn any of these but from these choices by looking,I strongly prefer the Red Icon one, your coat & bike would come right out with the helmet as well. I also like the surreal red instead of the chains... We always had good luck with the HJC's as a solid and less expensive vendor.

Man o man, this thread is almost as bad as a tire and or oil thread. LOL to many personal touches coming to the lid, I do know that Va is spot on that Arai and Shoei fit different head shapes there for I'm not able to make much of a comment, go with your gut, you'll know whats right, guess you know what's up just try a lot of different ones on, some will talk to you, some will be a no brainier. Hmm now look what you went and done, I've got an itch, mines 7 years old.

Based on looks I like the ICON's as well. I have an ICON jacket and the craftsmanship is great. Plus they look sweet as hell.

Hey VaRollOn on, I prefer "egg head" or 'Adam Sandler Shaped Melon" not pumpkin head! LOL!

    Reg:

If you have Adam Sandler melon, the Shoei is great! I bought a RF-1000 3 months ago from them for $360.00. I probably could have gotten a better price, but I thought that was fair. They come in some really nice matte colors too!

Fit is great, snug, and my head has not hurt once while wearing/ breaking it in.

Vents are great too, work very well.

Weight, lightest helmet I have ever worn!

    Just my thoughts!

I like the 4th down. It looks cool and is priced OK even the guys with the deepest pockets will think you spent enough. Functions seem good to. But if everything else is up to you. It looks cool and functions what more do you need?

Hey - the Scropion Crackhead helmet would be my choice and recommendation. I have seen the helmet go for $250.00 locally. I would rate the Scorpion helmet as being better than the KBC and definately better than ICON helmets.

Personally I would go with either one of the ICON helmets you have in the list. The Domain Decay being first choice the Mainframe "skulls" being second. I don't personally own one yet but I tried them on & like the fit, can't say much about wind noise as I've never ridden w/ one yet.

I have had the Icon Mainframe for about two years now, Its not a bad lid but they do tend to run a bit big on sizes.. Visors are easy to change and lock open in 7 or so different places. Nice to let more air in for those around town runs.. Good luck on your search !!

Have you looked at Shark helmets?
    http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=1&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=TUC_74-8620_G
I've got a pretty large grape (long oval) and these seem to fit pretty well. Cyclegear has a 30 day return policy on helmets so I think I'm going to give them a try. Of the helmets you listed I like the crack head the best. I haven't found any where around that sells them so I haven't tried one on. Good luck with the search and give us a review on whatever you end up with.

OGK HELMET ! ! Lightest full face helmet on the market. Not too well known in the US, but popular in Japan and Europe. LIGHT ! I bought the new FF-4 model a year ago from England (without Snell) and have left my Arai and Shoei on the shelf collecting dust. LIGHT ! How about 1409 grams. Did I say light? If you are planning on racing or doing track days then you will need the Snell models sold in Huntington Beach, California. They sell their OGK helmets often on eBay for great prices. Go to eBay.com and put 190096343462 in the search box.

You can get the Snell OGK helmets from: Center of Gravity, 19744 Beach Blvd., Huntington Beach, CA 92648, Phone: (714) 374-9491.

The Snell model will be just a tad heavier than the Euro model that I got from England. I ordered a Large and then later ordered X-Large cheek pads from Huntington Beach. The end result was a perfect fit.
The model I bought and the review is at this website:
    http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/ogk/ff4/.
Oh by the way...did I mention that it is light? After you buy it don't forget to say..."Thank you Uncle Bob"

Very happy with my Suomy Spec 1R. Light, quality fit and finish,fog-proof shield, relatively quiet,comfortable...Graphics are unbelievable though it sounds you would prefer none. Pricey but deals can be found.

Not too sure how much this well help, but I'll offer it up anyway. When I was in the market for a new helmet, I went to the various dealers to try them on (the ones I was really interested in) sure, it takes some time, and gas to do, but to me it was better than buying something that protects my nugget that I'm not too pleased with. Once I found my particular helmet that I wanted, I found the cheapest place on the net. I ended up buying an HJC AC-11, from Tonker.com. I was/am more than pleased with both. It's a little noisy, but that's to be expected with the amount of ventialtion that it provide. The more ventilation that a helmet has to offer, that possibility exists that it'll be somewhat noisy. I ride with earplugs in anyway, so to me it's not an issue.

I'm with emon07 on this one. I have the Scorpion EXO 700 and absolutely love it. Plethora of vents that keep you cool, the quick detach faceshield is a nice option. Fit and finish is impeccable especially for the money and it is very comfortable. Just my .02. Keep it safe brother.

    Hey Reg,

I have the KBC and I am ready for something else. The liner is coming apart inside and the ventilation isn't that great. Fogs up a lot but maybe thats just me breathing too much. The first Icon and the Scorpion look good to me, never had one on but I think the quality is going to be there. My girlfriend has an HJC solid. Seems to be made pretty well and reasonably priced too. I may have to go use my parts discount from my new bike now for exhaust AND a new helmet..... Now look what you started!!!

I just bought a SHARK helmet a few weeks ago and LOVE the hell out of it!!!
I got the black and orange dragon RSR2 Miguel Duhamel replica...It was close to $700 with the extra tinted face shield....but WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!
I did alot of reserch before i bought a new one because it is my life at stake when i go down....you can fix broken bones but not a crushed skull....
FYI the OGK helmet is not the lightest helmet on the market.....the SHARK RSR2 is at only 1400grams...I rode with an Arai for many years and now i wont go back to anything else other than a SHARK.....it has a very, very easy quick change face shield that is twice as thick as any other shield out there with perfect optical vision...great air ventilation...all padding can be washed and replaced, the shell is real carbon fiber...not fake....the inner part of the shell has a unique crumple design on the inside that works like a helmet within a helmet when your head makes contact with something hard....like pavement...
I would write more about the SHARKS but it's best to go to their web site and see for yourself....to much to list...
