I picked this up today... Now I've got to show off pics.

    Pertinent info:
    '98 VFR800FI
    24,140 miles
    Sargent Seat
Delkavic Exhaust with custom high mount pipe
    Zero Gravity dark windshield

The only real blemish I've found so far is a little heat damage to the instrument panel from a clear screen and some really hot summer days. Hard to see in the photos, and not very noticeable in person normally either.

I'm happy to be on 2 wheels again, and thrilled to have another VFR after getting rid of my '95 VFR750F way back in 2000.

What do you think of those Del pipes. They are made right by where I live have been thinking of picking one up.

Nice ride. I bought a Sargent for my bike for $200. Totally happy with it.

    Congrats on the new ride!

Kudos on posting up some nice shots of her right off the bat too!

Looks like it doesn't need anything except a good long ride, so what are your short term plans for it? You have been out of the game for a good twelve years so do you have any plans to work on sharpening your reflexes? Please tell us a bit more about you and your plans with this new aquisition...

The front end probably needs a little adjustment for me, I'm a tad heavier that the previous owner. But a little more preload should cover it. Otherwise its pretty awesome, plenty of power and seams to read my mind when I want to corner.

The bike sounds awesome, but as I haven't reinstalled the old one to see how it sounds original... I don't have anything to compare it to yet. I'll see if I can get a recording of it tonight and post it up for you to hear.

I plan on taking it easy in the next couple weeks to ensure I'm up to the task. That will be hard too, as I live just outside Denver and the mountains are calling me LOUDLY. Still, I plan to avoid pushing any envelopes for now. About me, I'm a fairly big guy 6'2" ~260 lb and not exactly young any more (just turned 44 in June). As you noticed I haven't been riding for a dozen years, but I'd like to believe that I'm wise enough to ramp up my skills in a safe manner, though I'm also considering taking an advanced MSF ridercourses.

I plan to use the bike as my main form of transportation, commuting to a Park&Ride a few miles away to get myself to and from downtown Denver. I don't see any truly long trips in the near future, but day rides into and across the divide are going to be regular weekend occurrences.

I clear the pipe by a couple inches.. but yeah, I do notice it's there and worry about it some. I haven't been on an extended trips yet, but so far it is completely tolerable.

Congrats on the purchase. Red 98s unite!
I weigh 225 and the more I ride the bike the more under sprung it feels. You'd benefit from a simple fork spring upgrade and some kind of rear shock upgrade. I'm planning on addressing that in the winter and really getting to "ride" the bike next year.
Also a warning. We've had lots of 5th and 6th gens fry their regulator rectifiers this summer, including yours truly 4 days after I bought my bike. I'd get a volt meter and get a reading at idle and at 4000 rpm to ensure it is charging correctly. When the R/R fries your voltage will drop and the fuel injection/ fuel pump will cut out leaving you stranded.

Congrats on the purchase. Looks sharp.

Your brake fluid is looking a little pink/orangish. Probably time for a flush, unless its just the photo. Besides, if you don't have all the service history, probably a good time to do all the fluids, check the chain, and as Durk found out, check the R/R. Seems like there's an epidemic killing R/R on bikes lately.

The colour looks fine on my monitor. Better check your colour settings, or get your eyes checked out.

Congrats. Nice looking ride. If you find the pipe gets too hot, just try wrapping it.
