Plus one ^^^^......I did mine the same way. Between the power wires going straight to the Battery and soldering direct to the stator wires, I eliminated the two most susceptible connectors in the charging system chain. Its an easy job....takes longer to route everything nice and ty-wrap it up, hehe. Also keep in mind that there are still the connectors that plug into the RR, so if for whatever reason the RR failed, just unplug it and take it out.

Thanks for the info guys! I see what you are saying, by just soldering the wires together without the plugs leads to once last place to fail. That I can probably do.

I went ahead and ordered my VFRness. Cant get here soon enough I ride the bike everyday haha!

If your battery ran low on water (electrolite), don't blame the battery !!

With standard (non-sealed) batteries, owners need to check the fluid level periodically, so blame yourself since you neglected regular maintenance.

It makes no sense to replace a battery without checking the charging voltage before and after the battery change.

    Not sure if troll post?

I am fully aware of how to use and maintain a battery in a vehicle. The battery on the top was very clear to never remove caps or fill after initial filling of fluid (electro). And I had been told it was replaced recently since I just bought the bike I figured it was fine since charging system checked out when I bought it a month ago. Yes I checked it when I bought it. I had no reason to believe the battery had any problems until recently and again it said DO NOT OPEN right on the caps. I only opend it because it went flat. The PO was less than honest about when it had been changed it appeared.

But if you want to defend a 7 year old cheap crap $21 battery from Walmart that has a 1 star out of 5 rating be my guest. If you would like I could send the battery to you and you could give it a new home and give it the love and attention it needs. Since it has been so abused in my hands.

    Easy there killer. :)

Im sure Squirrel meant no direct derogatory statement towards you personally.

Squirrel has a solid point. And its not really a debatable one. Its facts.

(Not directed at you) Id add...Id guess more than 90% of people with a wet cell battery, put regular tap water in it, when its showing low. Sure, it'll work, but not well. And even for some batteries its gonna be a killer to use tap water. Anyway, I think hes just pointing out that you may not need to toss that one, and get a new one.. try getting some distilled water and put it in, charge it, and see how it works.

I have a wet cell battery, that Ive kept in operation for 10 yrs now. Still charges and runs like a champ.

No worries. I did try and refill the batt with distilled and trickle it back up but no luck. Its just old and crusty lol! I do appreciate the help. I actually am pretty decent with batteries since I do alot of RC Lipo Nicad Nimh etc I have alot of custom chargers and peakers for those. Just didnt know the history of the one in the bike or even what type it was at first so after so long its not a big deal for me to just replace it. They are cheap anyways.

Its clear that the battery was toast and so was the charging system so it must have just cooked that plug recently aswell. When it rains it pours!

Yeah, thats probably a solid call there.

In my past career endeavors, I worked for a company and I was lead project manager for Trojan Batteries. Oddly, I feel like I know way more about wet cell than I should. For as much care as we take with the batteries, you'd be surprised to see how carelessly they are manufactured, and poorly constructed.

Anyway, glad to see you got a handle on the situation at least.

Figured I would just try one more time with my digital multimeter. With the new Wire my Bike R/R the Batt is 13.4V bike off. 13.5V Bike Idle and doesnt increase through revs. With the OEM R/R I have its 13.4V Bike off 13.7V Idle and 14.2V @ 2000K RPM and any higher and it falls back to 13.7?

Guess its probably the stupid burned out plug still thought though I would at least get you guys some better numbers.

Is that the same battery as the OP? The one that was low on water? Or are you using a new battery, and a new R/R?

No that is the new battery. The old one is in the trash. I replaced my OEM R/R because people said it was a weak link but I saved the OEM just in case I needed a backup for a short period. Its kinda weird that the old R/R there is a spike of V and newer one none at all but neither would indicate system is working right. I am waiting on the VFRness and once I get it installed hopefully all will be well.

Cooking a battery dry is one sign of a malfunctioning, over-charging r/r.

(Sorry if i seemed offensive above; i need to use more smilies !!:redface::crazy::cool::wink:)
