    Hey all,
I recently had my valves adjusted on my bike about two days after bringing it home it started knocking again. I took it back to the shop and told them they need to fix it since they had just opened it up. They informed me that it was the chain tensioners, I then proceded to ask them why they didn't discover it when they first opened it up. I had a great experience with the shop until they just lost their shop supervisor, I am starting to lose faith in the shop. I was wondering if anyone else had this probelm (knocking) around 21K.

They should have the chain tension adjust during the valve adjustment. Period

Happens all the time: You need to state what bike, what engine size, what year, ABS or not and how many miles on the beast at a minimum as well as how long you've owned the bike.

Valves out of time or wrongly adjusted can make a knocking sound, but loose chain tensioners almost always make a rattling noise.

You have a VTEK model, and adjusting valves on them bitches is insanely tough and requires a couple special tools, i believe. If it was the first time that shop or that mechanic did the operation, chances are fairly likely they screwed up since you have noises you didn't have before, correct ?? Of course there are other possible causes for knocking sounds besides valves out of spec.

Honda has had lots of camchain tensioner problems over the years, but usually only show up at way over your stated mileage.

A compression test isn't hard to do and could point to valve or timing issues.

Bike is a 2004, 800cc, non-ABS, 21K on miles and I have owned the bike for the past five years. Have always made sure to keep up on maintenance, oil changes, ECT. The knocking resumed about a day and a half after I got it back from the shop. Thanks for the reply; I greatly appreciate your reply.

Seems like you paid to have the shop cause a problem with the bike. Tell them the job was not done properly, be pleasant but stand your ground and don't let them tell you it's something else. It's your bike that you've owned for 5 years, you know what it is supposed to sound like.
