    Gday All.
Hope someone maybe able to assist on this one.
I have a Red 2005 VFR800 that has run flawlessly since I've had it until yesterday.
On returning from a ride, I indicated to turn a corner and the engine stopped. I restarted and indicated again and the engine stopped again.
I rode a little further and the same thing happened again. I pulled over and the same happened a couple more times till all of a sudden the indicators (all four and the green indicating light) stopped working altogether. I assumed a short somewhere and a blown fuse. I got the bike home and did nothing further.
This morning things have changed. When I now turn the ignition on, I get an ongoing buzzing (apart from the initial fuel injection noise). The indicators sort of work now. The rears work fine but both fronts come on dimly together as well as all dash lighting flashing in time with the indicators. The hazards do the same. This all is regardless of whether the engine is running or not.
    What a mess...
Any idea's from anyone at all???
    Thanks for reading...

Check the regulator-search common regulator problems.

I would make sure all your grounds are good throughout the system. A bad ground can do really funny things.

The dimly lit lights and buzzing probalby from the relays behind the instrument cluster definitely sounds like a bad ground. Check the grey and blue electrical connectors under the left fairing. With the key on push/Twist those connectors and see if problem clears up. Mine did the same thing and i traced it back to a bad ground connection thru one of those connectors. Has the electrical recall been performed? They replace the wire harness from those connectors to the back of the instrument cluster and to headlights.

Mr. Sleep may be on to something with the wiring harness recall, although I don't know if that's applicable to US bikes only, or if it was worldwide. You might want to check into yannih. It was for bikes built between 2002 and 2006.

Then again, Tinkerin is pretty familiar with the overall wiring on these bikes. See if he drops by on this thread. If not, look him up and hit him with a PM. He's mean, nasty, and sarcastic, but otherwise he's a pretty good guy.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the responses.
    And Bingo Mr Sleep...
The VFR800's have a recall for replacement of the front wiring loom... For the life of the bike... Apparently they were melting and causing issues like mine. Luckily I found out yesterday before checking these posts from a knowledgeable and helpful mechanic. I'll get him a case of beer.
Called Honda Australia and they confirmed it after checking my VIN number! Happy days. My bike is now in being repaired under the recall. For free!
I would assume this would apply around the world but can't be sure.
    Hope this helps...

    Hi guys,

My bike failed this weekend. It's a 6th gen VFR vtec from 2002 wit 70000 km on the counter. Switching on the lights or the blinkers made the engine shut down. I read the topic above and found that the ground at the entrance of my blue connector had broken down. I simply created a new ground starting at the green cable that comes out of the connector of one of the two headlights and grounded it to the frame. Took the bike for a testride and no problems so far. I live in Belgium (Europe) and was not informed by Honda about the problems with the front wiring. I'll try to contact them and hope they'll still arrange this recall for free?....

I would not take the bike for a long ride, you can fry the whole connector or even the harness. Get it replace ASAP.
