Hello all, a pleasure "meeting" you here.

I was Googling VF 750R and stumbled across this forum. I hope this is the right forum and that you guys can provide some advise.

I've been looking for a '70s or '80s bike to build a cafe racer, and was initially looking at a '79 CB 750.
Unfortunately that deal fell through hence I've started perusing the Chinese motorcycle boards for something else. Recently, I came across this '84 VF 750R which seems like a barn find (I can pick it up for ~$500). honda vf750r-2.jpg honda vf750r-1.jpg

First question, how does the VF 750R differ from the VF 750F (which seems a lot more popular)?
There's a lot of chaff when you google "VF 750" and I'm a bit confused...

And the main question. I'm torn between doing a radical "Cafe Racer" build, or restoring it to its original condition.
    What do you think?

Thanks in advance for any advise / suggestions...

    Welcome! Wow from Beijing!
I suggest little up-close pics so we can see the condition of the fairings, body.Front view as well.
If it has lot of scratches, marks I would make it a street fighter for sure.
I maybe wrong but R has full fairing and I assume no difference in engine.

Many thx Rubo. Here are a few more pictures from the seller's ad. The fairing seems intact, doesn't look like it's been in an accident or dropped (as far as I can see). Moreover, given the cheap labor here, getting the bike cleaned / patched / re-painted is not an issue.

Thx in advance for your thoughts / comments...

After seeing the new pics I agree with Apittslife as well.Restore her as best as you can.Front of the bike looks sweet. In Japan they love old style sportbikes.Retro is cool.
I like the color scheme as well.Have fun.

Yes definitely restore it. What is that full body fairing from? I've never seen one like that on a first gen. It's not stock is it? If so I want one. Anymore laying around Beijing?? If that is stock then you do have a rare bike there, at least for the rest of the world. Never knew Honda ever made a full fairing for the VF750F, or is yours actually a factory R designation?

First off, no doubt I'd want to restore that beauty. Its always great seeing an older bike brought back.

Secondly, I'd do a little more research on that. Not to influence your decision - just buy it - but because that's potentially a really unique ride. Grab her while you can.

I think they did make these 750Rs back then. I found another through Google here
    VSB ~ 1984 Honda VF750R

Haven't seen the actual bike yet, only the photos from the seller's ad. It's actually in another city a thousand miles away in the province of Shandong. It looks stock though. I think it's a VF 750R (with the factory R designation).

The gold comstars look reminiscent of a CB1100R. I have never heard of a 1983 VFR750R. IF that is a factory fairing/configuration, it really does seem rare and unusual.

I would get the VIN and have a Honda dealer run it for you. If not, we might have someone on the forum who could do a lookup on that VIN for you.

Didn't notice it was a wayback thread, but a China member revived it. Maybe that bike is still around.
