Where is the alternator at and the Regulator/Rectifier

    i wipped out on gravel rocks last week my bike was fine for 2 days and then my started draining.

    i tested my regulator and it was fine. and bought a new battery but when i take my battery connectors off and the bike shuts off soo im guessign its the alternator

    i have a 1992 vfr

    What year is the bike?

    The stator is left side, behind the fairing.

    The regulator is left side, behind the tail piece fairing.

    If you can see the wires - which I guess you did if you tested your regulator - follow the wires. The 3 yellow originate from the stator.

    You should do proper stator test.Do it from the plug.

    Am I missing something....You take off the battery connectors and the bike dies? Which connectors are you talking about exactly? All the electrical components on the bike pull from the battery not directly from the R/R or stator. The R/R is nothing more than a complicated resistor that regulates the AC current from the stator and converts it to DC voltage that is used to keep the battery charged. If nothing is connected to the battery nothing will work.

    A modern bike is not like your Grampapy's old Chevy.

    NEVER disconnect either battery terminal while a bike is running !!!
