First Generation Honda Interceptors (1983-1985) were the VF series and they suffered from top end oiling problems that led to premature wear on the cam lobes. Second Generation Interceptors were made from 1986-1989 and were the start of the VFR series which were much more reliable. 3rd Gen VFR's were made from 1990-1993. 3rd Gen project bikes can usually be found in the $800 to $1500 range but parts can be difficult/expensive to find. 4th Gen were made from 1994-1997 and will probably be your best option since they are more plentiful and parts are more readily available. A 4th Gen project bike will usually fall somewhere in the $1200 to $1800 range depending on condition. Bodywork for anything pre 5th Gen (1998-2001) will be difficult to find and aftermarket quality is mediocre at best unless you are willing to shell out some big bucks. If you buy a bike with cosmetic issues are you planning on doing any bodywork and/or painting yourself?

No idea what you are getting at toe man. But by all means post pictures. I like pictures. I plead the 5th regarding kinky threesomes; missus may read this.
Yes. My goal is to find a project. I have watched youtube. Doing so has convinced me I can repair plastics.

Just as long as you realize that repairing ABS plastic usually requires some type of solvent/cement or extreme heat to "weld" the cracked/broken pieces back together. Fiberglass does not adhere well to ABS plastic which means that traditional fiberglass body repair methods are usually not effective on VFR parts. Make sure you use the correct technique for the material you work with or you may end up creating a bigger headache for yourself.

ST1300, isn't that a Honda product? I figured he was trying to tell me to look for a YZF. (The thought has crossed my mind, through my fingers, and into a CL search or three.)
My thing is I want something vaguely modern; with 17" wheels front and back. I think that means 3rd gen +.

Are parts for 3rd gens that hard to find? Assuming one scoops a completely intact machine that needs repair. Wear items are easy to source, no?

I'm selling some on e-bay. It comes in a clear plastic bag, sandwich or gallon size. Sandwich is $9.99 plus S&H. Gallon is $19.99 plus S&H. Upon arrival of the package, unzip it, inhale and you will now have patience.

I pulled that stunt once, never again.

But maybe I'll start working on her, selling her on the virtues of a life full of toys.

At $1100, you could probably part it our and make money (that comment will make people happy!).

But as Mr. Scubalong said, it seems like a decent price, especially if its only an issue of spray paint. Are the fairings in good shape - and just painted - or are they chewed/scraped up and painted?

Some rash on the right side; fresh right side panel included in sale, upper fairing repaired (not well), cracked right side mirror
Tons of extras and goodies; suspension on both ends, braided brake lines, Corbin seat, Givi luggage rack, fresh tires
    Fresh valve and carb service

I paid more than that. Trailer was a given as I wasn't about to walk to work, where the seller agreed to meet me.

Cash changed hands at about 12:30 and I had it plated, registered and insured by 5:00. Town clerk took $45.50 from me. Damn I love this state.

Just removed the givi shelf and de-stickered it. I like it better already.

I had to go for a new petrol tank as the old one was beyond repair, for what I paid its a 150 mph motorcycle that I could take to CA and drink with Long if he invited me. Just did fork seals tonight. :mech:
