Just wondered what is safe on these third gen beautiful white rims. I have used some windex and stuff on them just wanted to know what you guys use. I dont want to damage the finish. Are they coated in enamel or just paint?

I always used the Purple Power or Castrol SuperClean degreaser to clean my wheels. The factory finish takes very well to this cleaning method, and a wax after they are clean goes a long ways.

Not to knock VT Viffer's experience with his wheels, but I find waxing my wheels to be a giant waste of time.

Degreaser to knock off seriously heavy grease and debris buildup. Make sure you keep changing rags if it's really caked on there, don't wanna gauge the finish you're trying to clean. Afterwards, and or for lighter duty cleaning, I use silicone spray. Spray some on wheel soak rag with it. Once you're done cleaning the wheel with silicone spray get another clean rag and wipe off the excess silicone and presto, clean shiny wheel with a slight silicone film left on it for protection. Makes getting chain lube off the next time a breeze!!!

DISCLAIMER: KEEP THE DAMN SILICONE SPRAY OFFA YOU TIRES AND OFFA YOU BRAKES.

Seems obvious but the first time I don't tell somebody that I'll be gettin calls from lawyers and girlfrineds/wives!!!

You can't fool us Metallican. We know you love to "wax the wheel" as they call it in Maryland...

I'll tell you my secret and been using it for years.......

I just spray some WD 40 on a rag and wipe them down. Takes chain lube and everything else off in an instant.

    Thank me later, lol :)

They are painted. Enamel has many definitions. The paint can be powdercoat or one of the many types of coatings that are catalyzed. A dilute mix of the "Purple Power and water ( I use 1:1) in a dollar atomizer and an old synthetic bristle flag tip paint brush works a treat.

Windex is alcohol and water with maybe a skosh of ammonia. Probably a home made version is on the net..

Silicone maybe good for chains but on rubber? I don't think so. Keeping your chain clean and not overlubing it is a good idea. The crud that accumulates on your wheels is not just chain lube.

Nobody yet has mentioned ArmorAll. Good!

WD 40 works tits on a micro-wave towel. Not to be confused with new wave which is not totally terrible (B-52s) are kinda kewel.

Me also likes Simple Green diluted in a 4 dollar spray bottle...You do the arithmitic as how much it costs per spray

Great aircraft: Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove (funny moments) - YouTube

I'll bite, WTF is a microwave towel?

The Purple Power or even the generic housebrand from Costco is about 6-7 bucks a gallon. Even at 1:1 with water and three bucks off the four dollar squirt bottle from Neiman-Marcus, the arithmetic is simple. Ya save the green..

I think an MSDS on Simple Green will show one of the components to be oil of citrus used in a paint stripper called Citri-Strip.

    White wheels? Stockers suck..

Funny stuff fer sure! The micro-wave tower thing had me laughing too. Just Bounty towels that dont scratch up your paint, thats all...

Those MSDS sheets are crazy, I worked at a place, and they wanted MSDS sheets on everything, and when I say everything I mean it, right down to the white-out on the desk...some stuff is BS I tell yah...Why would anyone paint a motorcycle wheel WHITE? you would have to be a total dill-hole...Sounds really funny in german...Dill-Loch Simple Green gets diluted with h20 3-1...

Some silicone spray may be the answer to un-linking linked or those "other" brakes too.

Green seems to the in color of the decade. It won't be long until several other colors will be simple too. Organic Orange, PC Pink, Republican Red, Democrat Drab ect.

A "skosh", huh? An excellent generalization. When making jo-jos, at any time, do you need to add a skosh of anything?

And LMAO about Nieman Marcus water bottles. Very well played, BB.

Jo-jo's ? No big secret there. Same batter as chile rellenos and un poco sal.. These can be made with Scotch Bonnet peppers as well. They are great for getting rid of inlaws and other unwanted house guests.

    Etymology:
    Urban Dictionary: skosh

Probably from post WWII guys stationed in Japan and on leave during the Korean "conflict."

I have in my kitchen arsenal some spoons from my buddy Greg Field who writes real books about Harleys ( I am able to forgive him for that) , the spoons to wit are labled in decending order: Dash-Pinch and Smidgen. I may use all five appelations in a rewrite of "The night before Christmas" sometime

Three more and I'm home free.. :)

Had a Nieman's (this is the way they are called in Texas) credit card a long time ago. The stores are not all that big. The merchandise is limited and when they have sales, they are doozies The sales are seasonal and partially effected to clear shelf space. The Nieman-Marcus customer service model is used widely.

I hope nobody calls them about squirt bottles..YIKES..
