Swapped my VFR 5gen for Yamaha FZ6R for a day

My friend has FZ6r, bike which I mentally entertained to own among many others.We agreed to swapped bikes just for fun.
Here is my impressions.


Positives
1.Shifts smooth click,click like clockwork
2.decent looks

Negatives
1.Very underpowered.On highway it was struggling going past 80.
2.Soulless and very boring.Sounds very muted and engine has this very diffident weird non motorcycle vibe like you are actually riding a machine shop tool.
3.Weak breaks

Conclusion? I was glad to get my very soulful VFR back!

Very surprising that it seemed underpowered, I've been led to believe most modern 600's will kick the VFR's butt. However when my brother rode mine he did say it had a lot more grunt than a CBR600 he had recently ridden. Guess the V4 and extra 150cc's does make a difference.

No mistaken.It was underpowered.Like it was fighting just to go fast past 75. My VFR becomes total animal after 7k 80mph. VFR has lot more torque.
I can tell you I love my bike more after riding the FZ.

I once test rode a R6 and had the similar impression with the lack of power. On my VFR I'm used to passing cars when I'm only at 5k rpm but on the R6 you had to get into 6 digit RPM range just to get moving. One thing I was impressed about the R6 though is the handling it almost reads my mind, if I want to turn bam I'm there.

I have to admit a downfall of the VFR is the suspension and how it's not exactly super-responsive. A free fix for that is I lowered the front forks by 1 centimeter, it may not seem much but does make a noticeable difference. That and putting a proper sport tire and replacing the rear suspension with a 954 shock transformed the VFR to a R6 with power I love it!

 

Apples & oranges. The FZ6R is more of a beginner sportbike with only 70ish Hp. The second gen actually was detuned for newbs. FZ6R is no R6. It really doesn't do anything until abouve 8K. My GF has one and even my 3rd Gen will out pull it. Where it shines is how easy the FZ6R flicks in transitions. The VFR is heavier than most modern 600's and needs a good firm push to transition from L to R. You're right though, it (FZ6R) is kind of bland compared to Viffers.

 

The key on a new 600 is to get the engine revving. It's like a motocross bike with a tiny power band. Out of the power band, there is literally no power, but once you hit the power band, you have an incredible amount of power at your disposal. On the highway on my CBR I do alot more shifting than i do on my VF. Say I'm riding in 6th gear @ 60mph and I want to accelerate to 80. I have to drop down to 4th gear to experience the same acceleration That I get on the interceptor in top gear. But keep in mind that there really is more power there to begin with. The CBR does 0-60 in like a whole second+ less than my interceptor. (granted that a new VFR is probably a bit faster)

I sold my 2006 FZ6 for my VFR (2003). I loved my FZ6 (103 hp, not the "R" model). It was very smooth, ran like a swiss watch and got 55-58 mpg. It was very light and responsive but not as refined as the VFR. The brakes on the vfr are definently better and the VFR had a lot more torque. The FZ6 redline was 14,000 so you had to rev the crap out of it to get the power.

So that puts power on par with the of FZR600. Those were fun bikes but I don't remember it struggling at 80 mph. but of course that was a long time ago.
