hey people after 8 months of a rather tedious relationship,i traded in my 2010 vfr i have owned several vfr,s and loved em all,but this one was a heartbreaker, really grew to dislike this machine.i think honda just completly missed the mark on this one.there where so many little things about this bike that really drove me crazy, limited power in first 2 gears, funky fuel mapping, very annoying buzz after 4 thousand rpm,so uncomfortable on long rides,i was just so dissappointed with this machine.but on to the good news ,i traded in that boat anchor for a brand new 2012 fz 1 i like this bike so much i already have 350 miles on it in 2 days, good power, fantastic handling, fuel mapping is spot on,really comfortable upright seating position,a real nice job by yamaha.as much as i love honda,i have had many new hondas, vfr cbr rc51 vtx i had to make the break. the only thing i have left to do is sell all the parts i got for it.if anybody is interested i have the bazazz bomb, two brothers slip on in carbon fiber corbin seat with back rest in carbon fiber leather if interested let me know mike:cool:

I agree that Honda has dropped the ball in recent years and for the first time in a long time I would consider a different brand bike when it comes time for replacement. I'm not saying Hondas are terrible they just aren't "the best" bikes like they used to be.

i had an fz6... the exhaust was only good when you were riding in the cold... otherwise in the heat? it bakes your azz and because the cat is on the right hand side of the swing arm going up ? it hits your right calf and thigh up really fast...

after 20k and all mods done to it, I sold it to a friend....

Congrats on the new wheels. ...always sucks when you don't bond with a bike the way you want. I had a similar issue with my KTM 950 Adventure. ...fantastic bike, actually, and a monster down in Baja; but it killed my back to ride it long distances, and working on it was a nightmare. OTOH, I'm in love with my 2010 Viffer; so it just goes to show the whole "different strokes..." thing.

I agree about a lot of the niggling little things on the Viffer, luckily (except for the damn buzz) that were all fixable for me.

What's important is that you've got a ride you seem to have instantly gelled with! Congrats again!!!

...oh yeah, and PICS, PICS, PICS!!! :)

Hey Reg, I'll keep this short (to avoid too much derailment).

I have a bad lower back, and the upright seating position really left me hurting after a few hours on the bike; off road, when you're mostly standing, it was never a problem. If you're looking to do real off-road with an adventure bike, the KTM is the only choice; nothing else can compete off road!

Maintenance can be a bitch though. Just changing the oil can be time consuming. ...especially when you clean the mesh filter coming out of the oil tank (I did it every 3rd change) as there is NO WAY to prevent oil from running all over the side of the bike, over hoses and wire looms etc..

If you get the 990 you're in better shape as you can just tweak the FI with an aftermarket bit, but the 950 has carbs, so if it's not running right, you have to dig into those, and it's trial and error (can't even adjust the air screw with them mounted, so there's no way to set them with the bike running. Getting the carbs off is a 2 hour process the 1st time you do it. ...I had it down to about 20 minutes by the time I got mine running perfectly!

It's not difficult to work on, it's just tedious as you have to remove a bunch of stuff to get to the guts.

...it is, however, a fantastic motorcycle!

The FZ1 is a typical Yamaha product where it takes a few years of production until they've finally got all the bugs worked out. They'll deny defect complaints from existing customers and then announce a fix as a model year improvement a year or two later. Reviews of the '06 FZ1 were pretty harsh but by '11 it had become an overachiever. Same thing for the FZ6, Grizzly, fxNytro...

Apparently the rules are different for Honda.

    Enjoy your FZ1.
