Hello, I just bought a vfr and joined the forum! I really like the bike, so I imagine she will stick around for a few years at least. I live in Seattle, happy to meet up and ride if any locals see my post here.

Anyhow, the bike is a 98, great condition, 21k, sargeant, yoshi, K&N, helibars, lowered pegs, headlight modulator... Few other mods here and there. previous owner really loved and took care of the bike.

Congrats on the new bike! I think you will find that the bike is ok but the community (forum) is amazing! LOL!

But seriously, the bike looks super and your little man has that, "it's just the right size dad" expression on his face. I remember making that face myself oh a few years ago.

    Congrats and welcome.

You get a couple of points for posting a picture on your first post. But don't let it go to your head.

Congratulation on a very nice example of one of the more perfect bikes ever made!

Sorry, I'm biased, owning one. This is my second VFR, and third Honda that I've owned, and would buy another one!

    Congrats!
Take the seat cover and left side rear fairing and check out the regulator. If its stock numbers starting with SH then replace with mosfet regulator which works cooler and more dependable.
open stator connection 3 yellow going to R/R and see if there is any discoloration.Lot of stator regulator failures cause by this connection.Very poorly done by Honda.Stock stator wires are low grade thin and connection just makes this junction very hot.Common melted connection.
I would suggest simply cut the connection and solder and shrink wrap those wires. You will find your bike will run better.
I went myself more extreme simply changed regulator to Yamaha R1 unit which is superior and heavier wires.
This is just preventive thing to do since it happened just about every VFR owner.
Don't feel bad.Every bike has few flaws.Simple fix. When going long distance trips you just don't want to worry or think about regulator failure.
    Anyway welcome!

I believe the previous owner already did this. He explained something along those lines, he also installed a little 8cm pc fan to keep it cool.

    Thanks!

We live on Beacon Hill. As much as I love Seattle, I am envious of your riding season over there!

Year round in my town! Seattle is awesome though..I got a trip booked with my girlfriend and son - sept 18-26 in Seattle, then 26-30 were surprising my son (6 years old) with Disneyland. Should be a good time!

Got what I think was a good deal on mine.

I paid 3k for my 98 but it's in really good shape with a lot of work done to it, from what I can tell the going rate is around 3k for an average 98 VFR 800 (At least around here in WA) so I was thinking I did pretty good.

Cruising the forums and wanted to chime in on the numbers game. I'm living in central Cal and I just picked up my '98 last month with 10.5k on it for $3,500. The previous owner only put 2k on her in 8 years!

I lucked out though, there aren't many of these for sale where I am.
