    Youve got it all wrong.

If we were talking RC26 yeah.

Thats a 750. Its what they were designed to be. How many of those bikes you find have 7500 miles on them? That's the value, and I hope he confirms the truth of it before it ships.

I see shitcan terrif beaters all over the place sure. Clean ones...whatever. Dime a dozen. Hey but they get better gas mileage.

Yeah he could have waited a couple years to find a cleaner/cheaper one maybe. Maybe hes been waiting and he keeps missing the great deals, or its a bucket list deal. Maybe he got coin and doesn't give a shit.
I say congrats. Ride the fuck out of it. Break in those rings.
    Dudes is my hero.
    Greatest bike ever.
    One more for the stable.
    I'm all about that.

If you are sooooo sure about how much you can get for your "rare" bike, why don't you put your money where your mouth is- put it up on Ebay and teach us stupid people.
Be sure to put in the description to tell them how "rare" the bike is and how people are idiots if they don't want to pay the $7K you think you can get for it.

Talk is cheap, prove us wrong.

And please, leave your silly political comments out of the forum, if you want to spew silly invectives take it to a political website lest you want to see your posts deleted.

What's a bike worth? Easy - whetever someone will pay for it! Sure, there are probably some folks out there looking for THAT SPECIFIC BIKE that are willing to pay for it. It's also that time of year when prices peak as riding season gets started. Being a natural-born skeptic, I generally don't put a lot of stock in online auction listings. I regularly see bikes get bid up to - let's say "unrealistic" levels, only to reappear a week or two later, being relisted because of a "non-paying bidder." It's way to easy to have shill bids inflate an auctions price too. Did I say I was skeptical?
As to rarity, I try to think of the wording an auctioneer would actually use if the bike were onstage at Mecum's or a similar live auction. He might use verbiage like "rare showroom condition," "documented low-mileage," or "exemplary example" but "rare" in referring to it's actual production numbers....mmmm, I don't think so.

    Just my .02

    THIS. A million times THIS!

Objects have ZERO inherent value. None.

They are only ever worth what some buyer is willing to pay.

Speculating something's value based on what you THINK it should be worth is nothing more than an educated GUESS.

If thats the case then why'd you modify the forks, the front and rear wheels, the rear shock, the exhaust system, the turn signals..need I go on. Its a nice fun lil bike if you happen to like that style. I love mine but theres plenty who dont find the "ricky racer" very appealing. Greatest bike ever?? I hardly think so but thats your opinion..least your not jealous.

I was watching an episode of Top gear where they look for future collectables and one of the reporters mentioned three things that gave a car potential to be highly collectable: Exclusivity, Race History, and performance. If that applies to motorcycles, then maybe these early RCs have a chance.

2 people fought to get that bike up to 5K. IF I had nice one taking up space, I wouldn't hesitate to start it at $3.5-4k and see what happens. Listing is cheap, and tis the season.

I cant find it documented anywhere, but the highest legit VIN # Ive seen in NA is ~1550. Honda imported this bike for 1 year. RWB to North America only. How many of these have been wrecked or parted in 26 years? Fine low mileage original examples are, without a doubt, rare.

You want to know why he got so much for it? He got it on Rare SportBikes For Sale. LOTS off collectors feed off that site....Im sure that helped.

I love it when these bikes sell for top dollar. To see some people appreciate these machines...not to mention the fact that it adds value to all of ours.

There's a clean, good-running '86 VFR750 for sale here in town--a bike i've worked on and known all the owners--for just $2300. Been on CL for over a month with no real interest so far, a cryin' shame , imo.

All that does is raise the price of admission. The value of the bike is not in what I can sell it for, it's how much I like riding it. If it's too valuable to ride then it isn't worth much to me.

Then again, I am not a collector. <shrug>

A bit off topic, But not by much!

I knew a Doc. that raced a 50's gull-wing, & half the spectators would ask him why he could even think about thrashing & ultimiatly crashing a car of it's value?
He would tell them that while it's priceless to him, He bought the car back when the car wasn't worth much, & since the car will "NEVER" be for sale, he doesn't care how much the car would retail for!

Is this 7k bike the same one that Jay Leno sat on and went vroom-vroom and then farted? Or, is the the one that Steve McQueens second cousins husband looked at one day?

Nah, you got it wrong, McQueen's mother's brother's uncles step-daughters hairdresser farted on it. Not once but twice.

From what you guys say the bike (and price) in question was an OK bike. IMO and I am biased as hell, the 90-93s with real carbs, gear drives, regular and fairly easy to adjust valves and worldwide reviews (lest we forget) as the best bikes around anyplace.

Just to be clear, I am talking about VFRs not Harleys.

Did I say I was biased? LOL
