    Tink,

What width and length exhaust wrap did you use? How much did you cover?

2" wide but I forget the length. Bought off the shelf at NAPA. Their online store sucks and I can't seem to find a match. The odd thing is that all the stores seem to stock the wrap but not the metal ties for securing it. I have a little less than half a roll remaining after wrapping the whole length of both rear pipes - head to the collector. I ordered one "wrap strap kit" which came with the 8 straps needed.

This thread rules. That bike looks the shit. Work very, very well done.

Now go ride the piss out of it, come back and tell us stories of your travels... but only after you answer my lame ass questions:

Any tips for plastic welding? I've seen you mention yootoobe a couple times. Any favs bookmarked you can share with us?

This one seems pretty comprehensive to my eye. But that's not saying much. He's heating up a metal tool and pressing it into the plastic.

You say you use a heat gun?

Edit: Or how about this guy's technique?

no favorite video and didn't bookmark any.

I have not tried the hot iron method. I have this gun from Harbor Freight

    Plastic Welder & Welding Kit

it takes a little practice to get a handle on the technique and how to support the parts to be joined.

maybe I'll have to try and do my own video in another thread showing what I've learned so far.

That turned out really nice Tink. I didn't think I would like the look of the 6th gen tail on a 5th gen front, but I really do. :guitar:

It was a gamble. Even with the photoshop attempt to preview, it's tough to really know how the lines and everything will work together. I know a few people had concerns that it wouldn't work cosmetically. You are the first one I've heard who's admitted to being won over. Thanks!

Great work Tink. Now please, bring that thing to South Africa so you don't have to ride in the snow!

Using the iron has just as much of a learning curve, I would like to use the heat gun but I don't have an air system the iron I got came from harbor freight. it worked pretty good but I ended up bending and breaking the element( I was pushing the iron too much) the welds seemed to hold prety good unless you wreck again... acctually most of the welds I did held and I got new breaks.... it takes a lot of pre paint prep work to get the area back to smooth for paint with the iron ... not sure about the gun. Tink could answer that question...

Tink - Congrats on an outstanding job. Glad to see it all came together for you. I haven't been around here all that long, but I know you've always been fond of the yellow ones. I'm sure its a one hell of a sense of accomplishment to know that not only did you basically create your own bike, but you got to paint it yellow too!

    Well done, sir.

Spot on  I really wanted to paint the 3rd gen yellow when I rebuilt it but just didn't seem appropriate for that model. It is quite a sense of accomplishment to finally have my yellow bike, AND something that (by all accounts) seems to be truly unique.

every one I've done has taken a lot of cosmetic work to hide the weld repair.
