    Hey, was just wondering if anyone uses noise cancelling equipment when they ride? Ear plugs, or earbuds w/music, like that.

    Save your money, use the simple yellow squishy kind. I use them on the flightline to block jet engine noise. I use them while riding & they quiet things down just fine.

    Just started using earplugs, trying to save what's left of my hearing, too much AC/DC and such back in the 80's :rockon: :drum:

    That's what I use now. They are easy, disposable, comfortable. I also have a set of fitted earplugs that can be washed and reused.

    I'm kind of thinking about when I go on longer rides this summer. I'm hoping to take some overnight and weekend trips. WA101 loop, Columbia river gorge, like that. Anyway, I'm thinking I might like to have some music to listen to but it's too loud for regular ones...well, I COULD turn them up loud enough to hear the music but that's just as bad, or worse, for the old hearing.

    So I was wondering if anyone uses them now and what they think of them?

    As far as cost goes, I realize that the more you spend the better product you get, but I've seen some decent ones in the $70 range. Which isn't that much money considering the benefits, or at least it's not to me.

    I bought some earbuds at radioshack that are like earplugs. they quiet the noise, but at the same time I can listen to music(their a little illegal in Texas) from my mp3. I just hear their illegal, I haven't been stoped with them. I don't see why they would be illegal but earplugs aren't though.

    I tried some noise canceling and they sucked. I use Shure e3G earbuds now.

    They block out so much road noise that you don't even have to crank the music up that loud. Once fitted, the audio quality is amazing. They come with assortment of ear fittings too.

    I agree with KC. I use the same ones and I can still hear the gear-driven, V4 symphony just fine. That is the only music I want to hear. :cool:

    Etymotic Earplug Speakers

    Costs a few bucks, but well worth it in my opinion... especially if you go long distance much as it helps a great deal with the fatigue factor.

    I bought a pair of etymotic er-6i earplugs and I like them alot (www.etymotic.com). [IMG]

    I've also heard good things about the "SHURE" brand. Give them a look.

    I can honestly say, I have zero idea why anyone would want to listen to music under a full-face helemt while riding. All the music you need comes from the cams & the exhaust. Riding is dangerous enough by itself, why add an unnecessary element of risk to the equation?

    I'm partially in agreement w/ KC but have to admit when I had my Venture Royale having the stereo was nice on occasion.
    Just another option aren't there helmets w/ built in speakers & MP3 docks? Thought I heard of something like that ???? wouldn't know I wouldn't have the first idea of how to use an MP3 if I was given one(sure I could figure it out though)

    I ride for hours on end and love to listen to music. For the past year I have used these;
    http://www.epinions.com/Sony_Fontopia_MDREX51LP_Headphones

    They work well, sound great, block noise, and you can get them at Circuit City for around $50.

    I ordered a pair of Shure earbuds and sent them back. They were $150 and did not sound as good as the $20 Koss earbuds I was using at the time.

    Try the sonys. If you don't like them, you can take them back.

    I have use the foam ear plugs for a lot of years. I find I can focus better with a lower windnoise whether in strait line or twists. Even use them when ride the bigass Valky and cruising.

    I generally use the soft foam kind but I do find it a bit tricky to get the helmet on without dislodging them. Also they don't seem to seal as well when you stop and take them out then put them back in again. Generally only a problem with longer rides. You can get reuseable made to fit ear plugs for about $50 up my way.

    Honestly, I've never had an issue with the earplugs/music being distracting. In my opinion you should be aware of your surroundings at all times anyway. Ensure that you are visually connected with your environment at all times.

    I agree that listening to the cams/exhaust is satisfying, but not for an 8 hour day ride. I appreciate your concern for safety... but I'll take my chances.

    I have a walkman phone from sony and I use the earbuds that came with that. they work okay, but I can still hear road noise quite a bit. I can barely hear the music at max volume. guess that's about right though for safety sake I should be able to hear outside noise eh?

    I also had problems with them staying in. Try this;

    Take an old t-shirt and cut off the sleeve. After you put the ear buds in your ear, put the sleeve on your head like a headband so that it covers your ears. Now when you put on your helmet, the ear buds will stay in better.

    I use my old panasonic ear buds. They do the trick. But I only put them in if I'm doing long highway driving. If I'm in a city or town I make a point of taking them out. Too many things to concentrate on to be jaming out on the tunes and trying to make sure someones not running into you.

    I've ridden with the squishy ear plugs lots and find them comfortable and a good damper for wind noise.
    If yours pop out, reach over your head with the opposite hand and lift your ear up. This gives you a better shot at getting them in the ear canal further.

    I've used various ear buds and never been happy with the comfort or getting the inside of my ears scrapped up as I take off my helmet.
    I still use them occasionally, but only for long trips.
    Cruising and jaunting get plugs sometimes.
    My AGV does a nice job of reducing wind noise.
