Now, I love the ole RWB VF's and VFR's and VFKR's but seriously? I'm "window shopping" on ebay right now and there is a '85 VFKR for $9000, a '84 VF1000F for $4000 and a '85 VFR750 starting at $3000.

Is it me or are people expecting a lot for the older Honda's? I had an "episode" with sanity recently and put up my VF1000R for sale for a few weeks for a measly $3000 firm and had no real buyers. Lots of people interested in pics. I wasn't very eager to sell and was only doing it because of my ankle surgery and daughter getting braces but I woke up and took it off the block.

Maybe it's me, don't mean to poke at others if they are selling they're bikes but I wasn't aware these bikes were worth that much or fetching that much.......anywhere. Are they?

Here's my bike that didn't sell for $3000. Glad it didn't either. I can't ride it right now but I can at least listen to it idle in the garage..

I know what you're saying, but you've got to remember, that some of these bikes are in short supply and if they're in the right condition, they will bring a huge dollar. Also, a buyer who is looking to pay that much for an old bike isn't too concerned about shelling out a little more money if it is needed for their collection. People buying these for the most part are collectors.

I am shocked that you couldn't get $3K for your bike. It looks clean and has had some nice modifications, but I wonder if that is what hurt you. Collectors are typically looking for a stock machine.

I looked 6 years for a 1986 VF1000R before I was able to find one in good enough shape to restore. They are hard to find. In that time frame, I saw some in fantastic shape go routinely for $6K to $8K. So here is mine below. It has less than 4K miles on it, is 100% stock and is in near flawless condition. It is a trailer queen and I would not part with it for less than $8K. I would bet that with time I could get it. However, I won't have the chance to find out because I don't intend to sell it.

Lastly, I do agree that some people assume their bike is worth a ton of money just because it is an old Interceptor, but it boils down to which model. I don't think the 500s or 700s have nearly the same value as the 750s or 1000s.

Yeah, I know it. I had one guy come over to look at it and I was doing a horrible job selling it to him. I told him it was to big and heavy for him and it requires a lot of maintenance cause it's an older bike. A salesman I am not. Glad I sucked at it!!!

    Stewart-
I hear what your saying and yes, to the right buyer a pristine example such as yousr should fetch that amount. It's a museum piece!!! But when the mileage creeps up and cracks form i scratch my head at the prices.
Again, I'm glad mine didn't sell and while it's far from stock, it is 100% mine and I'll never see another like it no matter what. Anyway, just a rant. I'll never laugh at someone for buying one of these beautiful bikes regardless of how much they paid for it.

That's funny. I've done that before too. You put a bike up for sale not really expecting any bites, then when you do, you try to talk them into NOT buying it. I'm glad you didn't because to me, your bike is a keeper. You don't find them in that condition and your updates only make the bike better performance wise.

No, your rant is justified. I'm just saying that SOME of these bikes are worth the asking price. Many sellers have the assumption that their old Interceptor IS worth a huge amount of money because of what it is or was - regardless of the mileage or condition. Every night, for a stress reliever, I have to get on eBay to see what people are asking for their bikes (Interceptor and non-Interceptor) and I usually get a good laugh or two every time.

There was two VF1000F's ( 84-85 ) & my VF45/750 on craigs list at the same tyme, & the 85 VF1000 was just relisted.
The 84 was listed for 1500.00 as was mine, & the 85 is at 850.00 ( it has fire damage ).
I decided on the 750 because it was the only one with pics & looked sweet, & I felt the 750 was a good fit for me.

I could never imagine letting my VF1000R go. I would love to have a bone stock unmolested VF1000R, however mine was already lightly modified by the time I got it and I don't mind. It's like getting that first scratch on a new car, mines already been scratched, time to ride like it was meant to be.

Yah you need to get past the whole scratch thing and enjoy the bike like it was meant to be enjoyed. I see you have a classic Seca 750 tucked in behind the VF! That was the first bike I rode past 120 mph. Darn thing used more fuel than my car!

Jethro - I am one who falls in this category, but after much therapy and a bunch of razzing from my fellow VFRWorld friends last year, I actually pulled my R out of the basement and put 300 miles on it. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it was a HUGE first step. I now just need to kick myself in the rear for this coming summer and pull it out again. If I do, I might actually turn the odometer to 4K miles. According to my calculator, that means the R will be averaging about 153.85 miles per year!

Because of the weight, riding a VF1000F or R is a bit like dancing with an elephant.

Yes, that is true. I love the motor, the handling is OK, but for me, the worse thing on the bike are the brakes. It gets up to speed very quickly, but it takes forever to slow it down. I'm looking into getting a set of the Galfer brake lines hoping that it will make a difference. I want them in black so that the bike still looks stock, but yet benefits in that department. We'll see.

I wont speak about old vfrs and what not, but i noticed a lot of people having high expectations for all kinds of bikes. While shopping for mine I ran into all kinds of crazy prices. I tried to talk to one dude about blue book values and he told me it doesnt matter, the bike is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In a collection situation I can back up that logic, but for some random bike like a ninja or cbr it makes no sense. And I ran into this a few times while shopping - so I tell them ok im willing to pay x amount of dollars for this because thats what its worth and they turn it down - then I see it weeks later, and even weeks later after that, getting cheaper and cheaper. I understand people trying to get the most they can out of something but god damn be a little more realistic sometimes!

Yeah, especially this time of year in parts of the country that get a "winter"

Spring time brings out the "I gotta have a bike!" guys who have never riddent (aka, squids, newbs, etc.) and the other guys feed off of this selling thier bikes for top dollar and then some.

Prices usually fall by mid summer and the by fall it's like discount city.

Here in hawaii we dont get that winter/spring price jumps - its just all around people trying to find a poor sucker to rip off. I wont say that about everyone cause in summer when I moved back I did find an awesome reliable jeep thats been doing me well for a really good price...and the vfr I found was a good deal too and the seller was a good guy. But every week here theres some "re:" on craigslist saying how ridiculous and on crack some seller is. I just randomly saw this civic for sale last week and the guy was saying how clean it was - then I saw it in the parking lot at the local grocery store and the guy literally took a white spray can to the whole thing and you could see drip marks all around the car. And this other buy I was going to buy got swooped up from under me a couple months ago - which I have no problem with...he came in with the cash and got it - fair game! - But a week later I saw it up for sale for about $1500 more and he was claiming it just sits in his garage for the last year and he just did all this service to it. Come on!!

I've been watching RZ350s and RZ500s for years. People always seem to think they are worth gold. 4-5k for a 350 and the 500s can't be had for less than 6k. That said, I should have bought one ten years ago and doubled my money. Kick myself for passing up a few good deals.

Dude, I can hook you up! This is a buddy's RZ that he is thinking about selling. If you are interested, I will introduce you. I had a pristine RZ500 that I let go years ago for waaayy too little. But I had nowhere to keep it at the time and my world was imploding so you do what you must. I still cry once in a while for the loss.
