gotta have something to keep my 86 and 87 vf700,s company..oh and the 73 norton 750 commando interstate ive owned for 30 yrs.
found a real nice 86 vf500 babyceptor out of a guys collection,,and its got 7,112 actual miles..just mint except for th geekwad who decided to do a rear fender eliminator job ...what a botch job...seems people dont do maint anymore had to flush all new fluids thru the system all of them..and of course the tires are crap something called a duro ..and he put a 130-90-18 on the rear that makes it handle like crap using the stock size front tire.time for a set of bt45,s...had to pull the carbs the push cable was off and it had a large piece of fuzz in one main jet..other wise clean carbs..they musta oiled the tank and cylinders smoked like a freight train for about 20 min..then cleared up..tank was perfect inside and out. and no plastic parts are faded..windscreen like new .whoever had it definetly used all the edges of the tires scuffed all but about a 1/4 inch from the edges..but no signs of ever being down..forgot how smooth they run compared to the 700,s..and so quiet.and hundred lbs lighter and lots more nimble..now for tires and a rear fender extension assy to finish it off..wierd no fuel pump thats a plus less to go wrong..just cant get used to the black wheels when the 700,s are bright white...havent figured out pics yet..gregg in ohio

The solution for the rims is to powercoat them white to match the 700. That's what I did to mine and they look awesome. You'll hear some groaning on this forum about the reliability of the 500, but be diligent with the maintenance and it'll treat you fine. I've owned 3 of these bikes over the last 22 consecutive years and have never had an issue with ANY of them. And yes, pictures are required.

It does look good. It's even got the stock exhaust. The first thing on my list would be to locate a stock rear fender. Believe it or not, that alone is pretty difficult to find.

not a problem ive found several rear fender extensions for sale ......someone did the fender eliminator trick..looks like crap..ill have it fixed in a week..doesnt ride very well ,has the stock 16 on the front and a huge 130-90-18 on the rear.with a flat spot in the center of the tire.feels like its gonna fall over in a turn..my 86 vf700f was like that when i got it handled terrible..new tires the proper size fixed that problem..i had a 85 vf500 here today from a freind with a set of supertrapp slipons and sounded like ,,something muffled with no exhaust note..dont want them id like to find a set of cobra F1,s..my 86vf700f has the cobra F1R straight thrus..now that puppy sings at 8 grand my neighbor can hear me comming 2 miles away to his place from mine..im pretty happy with it so far..gregg in ohio

If you end up wanting to get rid of the stock exhaust and they are in as good of shape as they look in the picture, then I'd be willing to buy them from you.

No problem. I meant if you ever decide to sell down the road. I've had my bikes forever and plan to keep them forever, so I'll always be looking for the stock exhaust. Have fun with bike and post back your changes and impressions.
