Hey, I'm new to the motorcycle scene, I used to race dirtbikes and still ride them today, but I just bought my first street bike and made a video for you all to enjoy. 23k miles, black, needs tlc..

video gets into the details, check it out!

UPDATE: June 6, 2012: Here's a recent video. Enjoy, Honda Heads!

    VIDEO 2- UPDATE!

    VIDEO 2- UPDATE!
Here's the bike when I first bought it for $500 about 2 months ago. It is painted (hand-brushed!!) with what appeared to be LATEX WALL PAINT..

Here's after I sanded it and primed it with a rattle can (not good enough in my opinion)

And now it's getting painted by a family friend pearl white.

The Run/Stop switch doesn't work, have to figure that out.. I am ordering LED's for flushmount blinkers.

    UPDATE: 8/12/2012
Been busy with work lately but sneaking in time for the bike when I can.. It has been professionally painted by a family friend, new clutch plates, brakes, and flush LED's installed. Pics and video below.

OH, God, I hope the little sweetheart never breaks your heart or leaves you stranded and makes you happy, not frustrated, really i do !

Are you a praying man in the Lord's good graces ?

Keep the revs down, and you might be fine. Anyway, the bike looks so great you'll want to keep it in your garage years after it finally blew up.......which every VF500 has been waiting to do ever since it left Japan.

Hahaha, thanks for the chuckle- but with the way people drive now, even God's grace can't suffice..

:pound: So much angst in this one.....

Congrats on the bike. But as some may mention, make sure you have the time and funds to dedicate to the bike. Parts CAN be found, but some are hard to come by. As The Squirrel hath spokeneth... the engines had poor design resulting in top end oiling, dropped valves, and cam wear. If none of those problems are found, years worth of grease, internal crap from sitting, and abuse is usually found.

Since IC isn't here yet, I will say from experience... if the bike did not come with a Factory Service Manual, find one now. Don't settle for the crappy free Clymers manual found online. The FSM is really 100x better and will make your life easier from the get go. Check your valves ASAP. In the condition its in, I would venture to say that they have not been checked before, or in a long time.

But have fun with it, and don't go into this thinking you will have a bombproof bike that you can thrash up like a modern 500, and you will be just fine!!!

Welcome to the Gen 1 madness.....

I love my 86 and have put a lot of miles on it.

It's not as problematic as people like you to think.

Just keep the valves adjusted, flush the fluids and keep the oil changed and you should have plenty of fun with it until you're ready to move on to something else. For me, I've had it a couple years now and really don't care about getting "something bigger." It's what I'm use to and I easily keep up with crazy FL traffic.

I started jones'in for something a little bit bigger for the first time this spring. Not so much that I think that the 500 isn't powerful enough, I just want something that isn't screaming when you want to cruise at 70. Plus I'm a bigger guy (read fatass) and it is probably better suited for a smaller rider.

But they still are fun as hell to ride...

Yeah I'm not a huge guy by any means, so the size is fine for me. I am a little too long in the legs to be honest for it. It is definitely built for Asian riders in mind.

I do completely agree with the buzzing at high speeds though! I look at the tach when I'm on the freeway and I'm literally only a few thousand from redline at times!

Yeah from my research that is the only thing I am worried about.. The bike was definately abused and neglected, and was jerry rigged in every way imagineable. But it runs like a champ.. No ticking, rattling, or anything. Smooth as can be. I'll take the valve cover and heads off of the bike soon and put up another little video, so stay tuned.

EDIT: I managed to find a Clymer for free. Score, haha. If anyone wants one (for a VF500) pm me or reply or whatever. I still need to find a factory mnaual though.

Yes after about a month of riding I definitely want something a bit larger, perhaps a 750.. I am a big guy as well and it has plenty of power but the foot position is bad and I literally can't ride it with my size 13 moto boots on.. There's just no way to shift with them on.. Haha.
