If you are twidgety you can disassemble the switch and clean/rebuild it to make it work. Did it with mine.

OK, he is a cheap , impecuious bodger like me, and i've had similar sucess, but a wise man would just buy a new unit. Someone needs neurosurgical surgical control to fix that shit. Small muscle control. F* it Bunky, just buy a new one ! The shit i've taken apart and repaired wasn't worth the time it took.

Well, the local dealer had the brake switch in stock, for $20USD.
Then the same thing as last year, had it running great, left it alone for a couple days, now nothing...pulled & cleaned the carbs again, still nothing. Next I will pull the coil packs to see if they check out...

I seem to have fuel & spark, but the engine just won't start, just a sputter or backfire.

Still nothing new...just a poot-poot-poot when you turn it over. Like it kind of wants to start, but nada. It seems weird to me, to run so well, then turn the key off, come back a day or two later, AND NOTHING. Well, maybe next year. Best wishes everyone.

Hello friends, I am thinking of buying a battery, as the new one I had way back when I started this thread, died shortly thereafter. Without a battery, I have not even been able to find out why the motorcycle mysteriously stopped running. I don't really know what to do other than gamble the sixty bucks and give it a go. To reiterate, I had the motorcycle running great, with cleaned carburetors, all new fluids, brakes, and battery. All I needed was tags, insurance, and state inspection. Needed a front brake switch for inspection, went to dealer, returned with part, motorcycle has not run since. Drained all fuel at that point.

I say throw caution to the winds and buy the battery.
Life's too short to stress over trivia.
As the Y or Z generation says "YOLO".

Also buy a good 8 stage battery charger like a ctek MXS5.0 and get a few extra years out of all your batteries.

I thought you were ring in the rain, I wonder where is the sliders? why don't people use them if you fall down more than I did like maybe five times, saved the bike all ready-but what do I know-sliders work. I don't fall down any more because I setup it up better than the factory stuff:spider:

Good luck. I hope it fires up.
Remember that fresh high octane petrol is your friend for starting the bike.

It fired right up! But there came a fuel leak I believe from the carb bowl area. I must have jacked up one of the gaskets...

Bike book, I think commercial advertising is unwelcome in people's threads.
You have now contaminated four threads with this. Show some manners and delete the advertising.

The spark looks OK, and after getting the engine to "idle" for a few seconds, I took temperature readings with IR thermometer on the exhaust ports. Definitely only firing the RF and LR cylinders. There is spark though.

OK I'm getting back on this as soon as I obtain some -041 Viton o rings. Carbs coming back out for the umpteenth time, jets and whatnot going back in the cleaning bucket, and will check with fine gauge wire afterwards. Going to carefully remove the main fuel lines back to the wye, adding in two inline filters and new line. Guess I should remove the pilot jets this time, but I am not sure if I am supposed to or not, although it is mentioned in the manual.
