Has anyone tried this? I wonder just how long the engine would last if you actually adhered to this recommendation. Its a Honda not a Harley... I cant imagine being in sixth gear trying to pull up to 70 mph from 37. Im not really sure it can do it. Hell I dont catch 6th till im doing at least 72 or better. Kinda wonder why it has that huge tachometer right in the middle of that console and a tiny lil digital spedo if they are going to recommend shift points based on MPH. Im done here. Just my boredom kicking in...

I remember reading that and thinking maybe it's for best gas milage or best decibel reading? Seems I mostly shift around 3k to 4k for the most part if I'm trying to increase my range.

I haven't even had mine out on an actual highway yet (I always take the backroads if that's an option, unless time is critical). I'm finding the VFR to be REALLY long-legged! Even at 65 I've scarcely used top gear. The bike just seems really comfy around 4 grand. Silly owner's manual.

I saw the same some a few years back and thought there's something behind this. After intensive investigation with insiders in the know, I have found the reason. There's an executive at Honda (remain nameless) that has had pictures, unbeknownst to him, taken of him in compromising positions. This was by motorcycle slash speed natzis! They want to do away with these dangerous machines. The ones that terrorize quiet neighborhoods. So they made this exec put this info in the Honda manuals. They figure that low speed shifting will cause many to disregard motorcycles and any kind of speed fun these animals enjoy. Also shifting that low will lug the engines and slowly destroy them. Because it has come from the factory experts, people will follow the instructions like they do changing their oil at 3000 miles or less. They don't want to hurt their machines because they are fragle.

Speeds over 35 mph are dangerous and compiled with motorcycles that are even more dangerous. They feel they can kill two bird with one stone. It's a very hidden agenda and only a very few know about it. Believe me on this folks, its true. They plan on infiltrating all other motorcycle companies, except Harley. They figure Harley is promoting their own slow speed motorcycles. Which helps them immensely with their destruction of the go fast motorcycle industry. They figure all motorcyclists, except Harley, will get so bored and frustrated at these speed they will trash their motorcycles and give up. Getting these dangerous machines off the streets will be a life saver to all. This is the truth. I have reliable sources so listen to me!

This is a conspiracy to do away motorcycles and push all people to drive no faster than 35, except on the highway where 40 will be the max speed allowable. So listen to me don't shift that low. Rebell agaisnt these MC slash speed natzis!! It's only way to survive. Really really.......

I don't see the problem, if you want to go 100mph, just shift into 12th gear

A little help here guys..!....So am I right in thinking ....when I'm about to hit 150mph....is this the point at which I should shift into 18th gear??....or is 17th still an option until I reach redline?

    BTW...I ride a DCT.....it has 1 clutch per 3 gears.....if I have an 18 speed gearbox it means I will have six clutches.....damn, she's gunna be a about 18inches wider than I thought..!

    Cheers,
    Smithy.

I would think that in 18th gear you should be doing over 250mph no problemo.....

Well the other day i was rolling down a small hill running about 45 or so and clicked up till i was in 6th..... 3K rpm @ 47mph .. Thats ten mph over the recommended Shift point. Im guessing Ten mph would have had me around 2600 or so. Do the engineers at Honda even ride these things?? I need to check the manual on my CBR and see if its an exact carbon copy. Honda is probably tired of R&D and just said to hell with it... Use the same shift points for all bikes. Just fill that page in the owners manual with some random useless crap. But at the same time inform the owner that failure to up and down shift properly will cause severe damage to the engine and transmission.

6th gear on my bike is almost an over drive! I shift into it at 90 mph or so, maybe 88mph, who knows. All me knows is it goes in like "butta." Its lawyers faults for those manuals, no-body reads that shit. Not lawyer bashing either...I likes em

Agreed. I see 6th gear twice a year. its usually when I'm going to meet the boys for ride 35 miles away, I slept late, and decided to take the slab to make up some time.

Other than that, sixth gear seems kind of silly.

So it's not just me...this thing is crazy long-legged. On my backroads ride to and from work, I seldom get out of 4th! That bike just hums at 4 grand. I can't imagine using sixth if you're not on the highway and breaking the law.
