My 86 VF500F runs great when its cold. But when it warms up fully it loses power especially at high rpms. I was suspicious of an ignition problem so i pulled the spark plugs while the engine was hot. The front two cylinders are run off of one coil, and the spark was dim and white when compared to the rear set, which was a strong blue. This makes me think the front coil set is going bad. Any ideas? Where can I find a coil for an 86 VF500F?
In every motorcycle salvage yard from Maine to Baja California !! Others are behind barns or under tarps next to mum's garden shed, with only about 5% still in running condition. (LOL, of course, only a joke, haha !!!!) Try testing your pulse generator wires for proppa resistance as well as the ign coil, both ends.
Thinking logically here: Not such a good idea take your plugs out when the engine is hot, with the expansion of metals when they are hot I am a little surprised that you would be able to get the plugs out. Not only being difficult to remove but cause damage to the head, as the head is made of a softer metal than the plug thread. Feel free to jump in here and correct me if I am wrong
No, chap, you're not wrong. Damage to threads CAN happen, usually cuz some bluudy fool disregarded proppa proceedure and and installed the plugs dry without the correct application of sufficient oil, grease, or Never-seize to meet proppa engineering standards.
