I have access to this 1990 VTR250 in mint condition for $500. I'm wondering if it would be a good investment. Not really in need of it. Could teach the wife to ride with it or turn it around for a buck or ?? I haven't seen much about them on here (not that I have looked to hard) so I'm not sure if there is a market or want for them. Blue book puts them around $800 to $1200. One other thing I do understand the pure love of a classic so it should not be parted out (at this price who would).....so what is your opinion ???

Looks like a fun little toy that gets exceptional gas mileage to me. For 500 bucks, you really can't go wrong.

We have all been there and done that and missed a good bike or let it slip through our fingers. Something else will come along.

The VTRs are total fun, so light and narrow they feel more like a bicycle than a motorcycle, and it's a well-known fact that you can't get into any legal trouble on a 250, right ??

The '90s are the rarest and more desirable than the eaerlier models ('88/'89) with the slightly goofy-looking inboard front disc ( they work fine, however). Decent, average condition '90's usually sell between about $850-$1400 mostly depending upon location.

Big mistake to compare Honda's other 2-cylinder 250, the Rebel/Nighthawk, with the VTR as the V-motor is far quicker and handles better too.

Odd coincidence... I just picked up a VTR250 on Wednesday night myself. Seller said some guy was coming in the next few days to get it if I didn't take it home that night.

Hopefully I didn't steal yours away from you, all the way over here in Ontario! ;)

I got the owners manual and service manual with the bike! I was pretty happy to receive both.

Took the VTR out this afternoon for some parking lot fun. It really is quite small and zippy!
Good bike for the missus to learn on.

Word of warning, coreo, some Honda engines are bulletproof, but the VTR's is NOT !! Looking at vtr250.com you'll see, and a more than a few have failed with spares very scarce.

The '90 i bought 2 years ago with 40,000 miles blew up (noblely and in the heat of battle, wide-open, lost rear cylinder big-end conrod bearing) after only about 1000 additional miles, and i was very lucky to find a decent replacement engine at a reasonable co$t.

Many cam, valve, and other engine parts are shared with the VF500, but unlike that ill-favored gen 1, almost no upper -end valve or cam failures reported on the VTR.

The 40,000 mile engine that failed had like-new cams and valve tips when i began inspecting, so ??????????????
