Hello, first of all I'm new to this site but I've been a big Vf1000r fan since they came out just never had the right time or money to purchase one until now. I found one local to me (N.C.) that seems to be really nice but the only thing that concerns me is it's a European bike. It's already titled in the states so I'm not worried about that but more on the parts difference and it so, the availability of them. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome. The '84 RE will suffer from the same poor parts availability as any of the other years. Luckily, the differences between them are minor and mostly cosmetic. Later years did get the line bored cylinder heads which made a big improvement reliability wise. You will find it difficult to source the exact fairings here in the US, they are slightly different than the '85/'86 that we got. Side covers are different as well. Ebay seems to have a lot of parts but the prices keep going up. Some wrecking yards seem to think they're the Duesenburgs of the bike world and therefore command a steep price for the smallest of parts. What's the asking price? Any pictures?

Hey thanks for the info! The bike seems to be in real nice original shape from what I can tell from the pics and talking to the owner. It was listed on that internet auction site we love but the reserve was not met. I don't like to bid on big ticket items that I can't wiew in person first. Anyway I'll try to att. some pics...might need some help, let me know. Oh yea he is asking 5100.00 and it has like 18,000 miles vf1000r.jpg vf1000r 2.jpg

personally I think that one would be more desirable the the US model and it looks worth the asking price. Was it on E bay not to long ago?

    Bigred,

I too have talked with the owner. It seems to be a nice bike and he's a nice guy, but it's been listed 3 times now and failed to meet reserve each time. This time the auction wreaked of shill/phoney bids as they came early, and then no action whatsoever.
Long and short of it, it's worth $4000.00 and he wants $5500+.
These early VF1kR's were also notorious for the cam issues that were ironed out later.
Good luck, be careful as top end parts for these things are GONE.

Thanks for the input Deltahotel, that helps me out a bunch. I also found a nice one owner all original 1986 Vf1000r that might be for sale that is in great shape but the plastic fuel tubes that connect the carbs are brittle and leaking. The owner says he can't find the parts anywhere. I'm going to sart a new post about that issue right now as he is supposed to let me know if he is going to sell it pretty soon and I would like to know if and what parts might work from other Vf engines.

Bigred, That's a common malady on these and I have it on pretty good intel that the tubes/fuel couplers from the big Magna and or Sabre ("V65" they were called) will work and they're still avail new from AHM.

The Euro one is VA is also sold apparently...

No idea what he got for it.
