I feel inclined to comment since I was the first to "challenge" pashiktt on his posted speed. I know well enough at this point there is speedo error usually in the
8%to 10% range, which would put the speed at 153 - give or take a couple mph. I just forgot to think about that yesterday.

But now we've all learned some information about calculating speeds, and that CandyRedRacer's throttle only has two positions - all the way open or all the way closed.

Andy yes, any quality GPS is going to be extremely accurate.

Speedohealer works well. After adjusting the unit, it is accurate at all speeds that are reasonable on the highways.

Gotta snicker at that lad. So... 150mph is 'reasonable on the highways'?

I must say 100mph is kind of a no-brainer, as it is so easily and quickly attained on these bikes. Under 10 seconds to get there and only 1000 feet of road. The top end is something entirely different, and the risks are exponentially higher. I suppose it would be interesting - perhaps even enlightening - to know what is possible; but safely attaining Vmax on any motorcycle of this 'type' is best left to 'professional riders on a closed course'.

    Be safe out there.

Edit: Having done a fair amount of roadracing, I can say with a high confidence that there are very few roadrace circuits where a motorcycle can get anywhere near its maximum speed (assuming we're talking about a streetbike like a VFR). I never raced on anything like Daytona; but even at the 'fastest road in the West' (Willow Springs) I never saw much beyond 125 on a liter-class production bike. Cheers y'all.

Well Dudes, my fuckin 91 is so fast I had to replace the speedometer with a mach indicator. All in first gear too. This is not a plug for riding gear in case anybody thinks it is except maybe Randy who may never see that leaky jacket again.

Those Moto-GP punks better watch out too.

You know after watching all these car auctions on the tele, I would trade my "fuckin 91" for a 1971 Mach 1 Mustang. Does that make me a bad person? And I would not obey the posted speed limits wit dat sucka either...:smoke:

I've never tried to top out my VFR. My Sportster, on the other hand, topped out at 180 MPH.

Now thats a neato chick! She needs to tawk to my wifey and brain-wash her arse so I can open dah Viffer up next time we ride with her as a pillion. Can't shift to 6th gear unless I am hauling arse yah now, kinda like an over-drive. Nice write up about dah Beemers, I believe and don't quote me, that a stock bodied Hayabusa is the current bike that broke the speed record.

Jeez - Would not wana take my 50cc YSR out there for a run!

I have topped out my Cannondale bicycle at 54mph. Yes, I admit, I broke the law on this downhill section...the speed limit was 45.

The "rules" at Bonneville are not set in cement. If my memory is functioning right today, the back story is that the two-up run was an afterthought and was cleared by the head shed quick like a bunny. I think too his lady friend also made a run on the bike. Not a clue on what is what up to date on records. Could be. Could be a Harley too, or the dude with the stock VFR that does 170.. Right! So what is the record for a 50cc bike.. Suzuki, Kriedler any number of ex 50cc GP bikes ??

Check out the straightaway at Pacific International Raceway near Seattle. Take out the "bus stop" and the fast guys are up in the 150 mph range entering the first sweeper. Ain't seen Willow in years but it was relatively a short course. BTW the Nurburgring is in West Germany.. and that VW test track with the seven mile straight is too. ;) What a great place to see the fast guys there.

That ECTA track in Maine is phenomenal for high speeds. I have a pal who went over 200 there. GSXR I think.

The ECTA is coming to Wilmington, OH this year. First meet is in late April, I believe. (In case anyone cares to break out the drill and safety wire.)

I love the speed and get a lot of it from my stock bike, with PCIII. I have had it a year now. But, TOP SPEED was over 142. I was on my straight top of the hills, in the mountains, windy road next to my house. Wind gets you concerned and potential traffic pullin out. So i slowed back off. The bike is a rock but not so much at 140. I weigh only 130. So I think weight matters to go faster. The bike could have done more. I can tell. 5th gear is so much better to use climbing near the top speed.
