I've tried Service Honda (on-line, but haven't called yet) and a few other random places.

I can't find the following for my 2000VFR.

    Baro Sensor
    Speed Sensor.

Don't know why, but both of mine need replacing. Doesn't affect the way the bike runs, but seeing that red FI light continuously on drives me nuts. I've tried removing, cleaning, resetting and whatever else the manual says, but no luck.

If one of you kind folks could help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Thank you, Stosh. Of course the fucker part was meant in jest, although I was hoping for Tink to respond. :)

Now, I'll admit I don't know much about fixing bikes, but I'm not on the same page as you - literally and figuratively - with these parts.

The speed sensor (as far as I know) is on the left side of the bike, situated just above the gear shift. There's 2 bolts that secure it, and a wire runs up to a 3 pin connecter.

I don't have pictures, but this is what I'm talking about (form RangerScott - a member here).

Honda VFR speed sensor swap - YouTube

For the Baro Sensor, I think that's on the right side, behind the tailpiece, next to the break fluid reservoir.

    That's correct.

    Oops my bad.
You're correct, the Atmospheric pressure sensor IS located there. For some silly reason I read your post and and saw air sensor and not baro sensor.

    Hmmm.......

Okay I gotta admit it,I'm kinda stumped here.

I'm seeing the Atmospheric pressure sensor being called out as the Baro sensor in the service manual, and I'm prolly staring right at it,but for the life of me I can't seem to find that darned thing listed anywhere in the parts breakdown. :twitch:

This is why I gave up and asked for help. I can't seem to find them anywhere on line, and don't know the part numbers.

Looks like the part number is: 37830-P13-003 I found it by looking under "Wire Harness" in the fiche.

This is listed as the MAP sensor and 2 are required to run the bike. Not sure which one of yours is toast, or both?

Servicehonda.com has this part at $244.43. You might try to find it used.

This same part was used in a lot of Honda an Accura CARS too.

    Thought so.

Saw that myself Deadsmiley but questioned why they would both be called out as manifold absolute pressure sensors.

The Honda 37830-P13-003 crosses over to to Tomco part number: 18053

Here is a link to the PDF. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...CBWeSBuV3OYvjoMlg&sig2=OWaOghsy39tX0mxBK1NGyg

Figure 71 on the last page is a picture of your baby.

Here is a page that has used ones from cars for $22.99/each. Buy them from that site or look at the cars it lists and go to the pull-a-part.

    EDIT:
Tomco is just one company that makes these sensors. There are lots. If you want to buy new go to rockauto.com and get one from a car for a tad over $100.

Methinks in this case the sensor is the same, just applied to a different function. An easy way to tell is to pull both sensors off the bike and look at the part numbers. I will leave that task up to Mr. Snake.

Since both sensors are listed as being exactly the same then why not swap their positions. If the baro sensor is suspected of being faulty then according to the service manual the FI light would display a 10 code.

If you plugged the suspect baro sensor into the MAP sensor harness plug and plugged the MAP sensor into the baro sensor harness plug and the FI light now displayed a 1 code you would know for certain that baro sensor was faulty.

Well fer da cripes sakers what are you waiting for Snake, inquiring minds wanna know!

Yeah, or you could do that... LOL

I have never had a FI code on my '98 so I never had to look it up. I do have the Honda Service manual, which is pretty good. After having the Honda manual I poop on the Clymers or Haynes manuals. Ha!

    Thanks Guys.

(I am definitely getting the 10 code - one long flash. And previously I had the 12 code, indicating the speed sensor).

I probably won't get to it until this weekend, unless I have enough time during the week. Not that it's that complicated, but I put it all back together this past weekend.

I can't believe how much those prices range for a little "piece of plastic".

OK, so I've been searching for this part. This shitty little piece of plastic is off the charts as far as pricing goes. I've seen it from a low of $217 to a high of $935 (that's not a type-o). WTF is that about???

Smiley - You mentioned you saw used ones at $23 a piece? At this point, I'd take a gamble and buy 10 of them and hope that I can find 1 or 2 that work, lol! Any idea where you came across this page?

I didn't do the "switch" of the BARO and MAP sensor yet to see if it throws a different codes. I guess I need to do that before I drop 200 clams on this part.

I don't remember exactly where I found it. It was some salvage yard advertising on the 'net.

Prolly a lot cheaper just to yank one off of a car.
I have a pull-a-part here locally that sold me an EGR valve for my Saturn for under $10. It's a $160 item new.
